1 Know How to Use epukapuka on a Tablet January 2015 What is epukapuka? epukapuka is a website that gives you access to borrow ebooks and eaudiobooks using your Hutt City Library card and password. ebooks and eaudiobooks are books that are published in an electronic format (text or audio) which you can download and enjoy on your computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, or ereader. epukapuka gives you free access to over 5000 ebooks and eaudiobooks from a wide range of contemporary authors. You can borrow up to 5 books at a time. If you need help getting started with epukapuka, talk to any Hutt City Libraries staff or attend one of our Introduction to ebooks classes.

2 ereaders and Tablets - What s for you? Tablet Does not need a computer to download books from epukapuka Bright full colour screen Can do (almost) everything that can be done on a computer Most (but not all) can be considered too heavy to hold for long periods Will have storage space for books, movies and media Popular tablets: Kobo Arc, Apple ipad, Samsung Galaxy Tab series ereader Needs a computer to download books from epukapuka Designed primarily for ebooks display May have other functions, but these are usually secondary to the main task of displaying ebooks Light and easy to hold Storage space for books (and audiobooks) Popular ereaders: Kobo, Sony, Kindle (be aware you cannot download epukapuka books onto a Kindle) Accesing epukapuka using a tablet epukapuka books are distributed by a company called OverDrive. To manage books on your tablet you need to install the OverDrive Media Console app (application) onto your tablet On your device tap the icon for your store account In the Search, field type overdrive Tap Install Open the OverDrive app When prompted to create an Overdrive Account, tap Sign up An OverDrive Account syncs your bookmarks across multiple devices and manages the DRM (Digital Rights Management) that protects ebooks Enter your details and a password to sign up for an Overdrive Account

3 Using the OverDrive App with epukapuka Once the device is authorised, tap the Overdrive Bookshelf icon Tap the Get Books/Add a Title icon + Type in Hutt City Libraries and tap Search Tap on Hutt City Libraries Tap on epukapuka and you will be taken to the website, where you be able to start borrowing books Searching and Downloading on epukapuka Tap Sign In Tap the arrow next to select library and select Hutt City Libraries Tap Go

4 Enter your Library Card number and PIN or Password Tap Sign In You are now logged in to epukapuka and can start borrowing books You can use the Search box to look up specific titles or browse a list of genres The search or browse results will look like this The black book icon in the corner of a cover indicates books that are available to borrow The headphone icon indicates eaudiobooks Click on a cover to view the full record To issue the book, click on the Borrow button The book will be issued to you for 14 days

5 You will be redirected to your epukapuka Bookshelf Tap on Download to start transferring the book to your device You can also tap on Read to start reading straight away in your browser If there are multiple formats available, you need to select the one you want and then tap on Confirm & Download The book will then start downloading Finding your book After the book has downloaded, you need to return to the Overdrive bookshelf in the app by tapping the Bookshelf icon + Tap the book to start reading

6 Returning a title epukapuka titles will automatically return when the lending period has ended You can return a title early if you want You can return a title from the epukapuka website if you have not downloaded it to a device Go to your Bookshelf and tap on Return Title Otherwise, you will need to return the book on the device its been downloaded to in the OverDrive app Press and hold your finger in the middle of the cover image until the menu appears Tap Return Reserving titles and using the Wish List If a title is on loan to someone else, you can reserve it or add it to your Wish List When viewing the book tap Place a Hold Enter the address you want a notification sent to and tap Place a Hold

7 A confirmation will display Alternatively, you can add the title to your Wish List Just click on Add to Wish List View your current Holds/ Reserves and Wish List by tapping on Account Tap on Holds to view your holds/reservations Tap on Lists to view your Wish List
