When your password expires, you will need to change it in three places: Case #00001 - If your WindowsNT password expires, you must also change it in the Alpha Connection and in Outlook Express. Case #00002 - If you get an error message in Outlook Express, you must change your password in the Alpha Connection and then in WindowsNT. Case #0001 Your WINDOWSNT PASSWORD Expires Changing Your Password in WindowsNT If you logon to your computer and you get this message: Your password will expire in days, would you like to change it now? Yes No You will need to change your password. To change your password, click the Yes button. A new screen will pop up: 1. Type in your old password 2. Type in a new password (the new password cannot be any of your old passwords, and must be at least 6 characters long.) 3. Type in the new password again to confirm it. 4. Click OK. The next time you login to WindowsNT, use the new password and it should work just fine. Now you must also change your password in the Alpha Connection and in Outlook Express. Changing Your Password in Alpha Connection To Open Alpha Connection: 1. Click the START button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen. 2. Select Alpha Connection at the top of the START menu. 3. Logon with your username and password. 1
4. At the Job prompt, type the word PASSWORD and hit the ENTER key. 5. Alpha will prompt you for your old password. Type your old password and hit the ENTER key. 6. Alpha will prompt you for a new password. Type a new password (you cannot reuse any password that you ve used in the past) and hit the ENTER key. 7. Alpha will ask you to type it in one more time to confirm your new password. Type it again and hit the ENTER key. 8. You should be back at the Job prompt. Type the number 0 and hit the ENTER key to exit Alpha Connection. NOTE: Sometimes Alpha Connection needs a few minutes to process the new password. Wait about 20 minutes before moving on to Outlook Express. Now, we ll make sure your new password matches Alpha in Outlook Express. 1. Open Outlook Express again. 2. You ll get an error message saying that the server has rejected your login. This is because it doesn t have the same password as Alpha yet, and Outlook can t get your new mail. Click Ok and Enter new password. 3. Click the OK button 4. A new screen will pop up asking for your username and password. Your username will stay the same. In the password box, type the new password you created in Alpha Connection. 2
5. Click OK. Your new mail should come into your Inbox as usual. Congratulations! You ve successfully changed your password in three places! You can now go about your work with no worries! Case #0002 You Can t Get Your New Mail in OUTLOOK EXPRESS Because Your ALPHA CONNECTION PASSWORD Expires If you open Outlook Express you ll get one of these two error messages: OR This means you ll have to change your Alpha Connection password to get your new mail in Outlook Express. To Open Alpha Connection: 1. Click the START button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen. 2. Select Alpha Connection at the top of the START menu. 3. Logon with your username and password. 3
4. When you login, Alpha will inform you that your password expired. You ll be prompted to set your new password. 5. When finished, type the number 0 at the Job prompt and hit the ENTER key to exit Alpha. NOTE: Sometimes Alpha Connection needs a few minutes to process the new password. Wait about 20 minutes before moving back to Outlook Express. Now we ll move back to Outlook Express to carry over the new password and get your new mail. 1. Open Outlook Express again. 2. You ll get an error message about it rejecting your login. 3. Click the OK button. 4. A new screen will pop up asking for your username and password. Your username will stay the same. In the password box, type the new password you created in Alpha Connection. 5. Click OK. Your new mail should come into your Inbox as usual. Now you must change your password in WindowsNT so that all three places match. Changing Your Password in WindowsNT 1. Exit all programs that you are currently in until you are back at your Desktop. 2. Hold down the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys on your keyboard (as if you were logging in), then release them. 3. A new screen will pop up with 6 buttons to choose from. Click the Change Password button. 4. Windows will ask you for your old password, and the new password you created. 5. When finished, click the OK button. 6. You are now back at the first screen we started from. Click the Cancel button to return to your desktop. Congratulations! You ve successfully changed your password in three places! You can now go about your work with no worries! 4
