Detector Locaton and Spacng: D BOSCH recommends spacng the sensors n complance wth NFPA-72. In low ar flow applcatons wth smooth celngs, space sensors wth a maxmum dstance of 30 ft. For specfc nformaton regardng sensor spacng, placement and specal applcaton refer to NFPA-72. D Not sutable for outdoor use. Detector Celng D Do not nstall n areas where the detector s ponted at drect or ndrect sunlght. D Do not mount detector n a cone of lght from a lamp. D Mantan a hemsphercal radus of at least 19 n. FCP-500 Seres 3 3. Installaton Dsmantlng Detector 1. Push on the center of the detector s front plate. The detector head sprngs out of the base. 2. Remove the detector head from the base. 3. Lft the trm rng by the edge to remove t from the base. 4. Loosen the four screws holdng the base to the backbox. 5. Turn the base counter-clockwse untl the screws lne up wth the large end of the slots. Remove the base from the back box. Insertng Color Rngs (FCP-500-C-P and FCP-500-P) 1. Select a color. 2. From the selected color, nsert the largest color rng n the trm rng. 3. Remove the detector front plate: Insert the enclosed small opener tool (2) nto the slot (3) above the snap-ft (1) and secure t wth your thumb. Grasp the edges of the detector front plate, push gently, turn counter-clockwse, and lft. 4. From the selected color, nsert the larger color rng n the outer rng, and the smaller color rng n the nner rng of the detector front plate (see Fg. 3.). 5. Replace the front plate cover. Ensure the tabs on the cover algn wth the grooves n the detector head. The cover wll le flat on the detector head. 6. Turn the cover clockwse to lock t nto place. Note: If the cover algns properly, all the sensor openngs n the detector head are clearly exposed. Celng Mount Back Box (FAA-500-BB-UL) D For nstallaton, refer to the FAA-500-BB-UL Installaton Gude (P/N 601-F.01U.003.008). Fg. 2. 2 Fg. 3. 1 3 Wrng the Base (FCA-500 and FCA-500-E) In applcatons whch requre UL lsted unts, the power of all connectons (detector power, trouble and alarm relay) must be taken from power lmted supples when the cable s carred through the grommets. Please check wth the local authortes to nsure mountng wthout the condut connector s allowed. Note: D Do not twst or loop the wres around the termnals. The wres for termnal connecton must be cut, strpped, and nserted as ndvdual ends. D Use the cable holders on the base for stran relef for the wres. An FCA-500-E Four-Wre EOL Base s requred D for sngle detector nstallatons D always as the last base for each stub lne. An EOL resstor can only be attached to the FCA-500-E Four-Wre EOL Base. D D EOL resstor: The last base on the stub lne has to be a FCA-500-E. For ths, place the EOL resstor between the two screw clamps (see Fg. 4.). Alarm resstor: If neccessary, change the alarm contact resstance from 0 Ω to 680 Ω by breakng off the prnted crcut board tongue (see Fg. 4.). For 680 Ω break off alarm resstor here! FCP-500 Seres 5 Mountng the Base (FCA-500 and FCA-500-E) 1. Insert the base n the back box so that t fts over the four screws. 2. Turn the base clockwse untl t stops to lock t n place. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 f you nstall multple detectors n a lne. 4. Slghtly turn each base untl the mark on the base algns wth the other detectors marks (see Fg. 8.). 5. Tghten the screws wth the suppled wrench. Algnment mark Insertng the Detector Head Fg. 8. 1. Remove the protectve flm from the detector head. 2. Snap the trm rng nto place on the base. 3. Place the detector head n the base and turn t untl the detector head drops nto the algnment grooves. 4. Push the center of the detector untl t locks nto place. It clcks and sprngs up. Start-up 1. Check the wrng from the control panel to the last head on the run for proper polarty and contnuty. 2. Make sure each run termnates wth an EOL resstor as specfed by the control panel manufacturer. 3. Apply power to the system. Check for alarm and troubles. 4. If sngle detectors alarmed or went n trouble, check f there s a free space of at least 19 n. (50 cm) around these detectors. If the problem perssts, replace these detectors or swap them wth known good unts. If also the good unts alarm or go n trouble, the senstvty may have been affected by the surroundng envronment. Recheck f there are any obstructons around the detector whch may reflect the lght emtted by the detector. 5. Actvate the dry reed contact of each detector for 10 sec wth a magnet untl the detector alarms (see Secton 5., Dry Reed Contact and Secton 6., Electroncal Functon Test ). Then reset the detector by removng the power for at least 2 seconds. After the reset, the detector wll calbrate tself to the surroundng envronment.. Make sure that no objects or obstructons (lke the test tool SOLO330 tself) are n front of the detector durng calbraton for 15 sec. After nstallaton each detector must be calbrated. If there are any obstructon n front of the detector after the reset durng ts calbraton (Electronc Functon Test, Secton 6.), the senstvty of the detector may be affected. 6. Perform the senstvty test descrbed n Secton 7. at every detector. Bosch Securty Systems
6 FCP-500 Seres 4. Mantenance and Servce D Traned personnel should perform a vsual and physcal test accordng Table 6 as recommended by NFPA-72 (Natonal Fre Alarm Code). D For cleanng the detector surface, use a common wndow cleaner and a soft, clean cloth. Notfy all concerned partes before any mantenance or testng of the fre alarm system, and after completon of these actvtes. Note: D The FCP-500-C and FCP-500-C-P must be replaced every fve years. The chemcal (CO) sensor turns off at fve years of operaton. The LED double-flashes every 8 to 12 sec, ndcatng trouble, and the detector contnues to functon as an optcal (O) detector. Dry Reed Contact 1. Place the test tool wth the FAA-500-TTL test adapter wth magnet up aganst the detector head. 2. Turn the test tool untl the magnet actvates the dry reed contact (see Fg. 9.). Normally the green LED flashes once every 8 to 12 sec. When the dry reed contact actvates, the LED flashes once every second. 6. Electronc Functonal Test 1. Actvate the dry reed contact (Secton 5, Dry Reed Contact). 2. Leave the magnet on the test tool by the dry reed contact for 10 sec. Count 10 flashes of the LED. Actvate the dry reed contact (Secton 5, Dry Reed Contact). 2. Leave the magnet on the test tool by the dry reed contact for 5 sec. Count 5 flashes of the LED. 3. Remove the test tool. Refer to Table 8 for the LED Dsplay. Smoke Test for the FCP-500 / FCP-500-P Note: No testng gas (smoke aerosol) s requred! For testng use only: - Test Tool for Optcal Smoke Detectors Solo 330 (Product ID 4.998.112.071) - wth FAA-500-TTL Test Adapter wth Magnet (Product ID F.01U.508.725) 1. Actvate the dry reed contact (Secton 5., Dry Reed Contact). 2. Leave the magnet on the test tool by the dry reed contact for at least 2 sec and not more than 4 sec. Count two flashes of the LED. The detector stays n test mode for 60 sec. The green LED blnks once a second. 3. Hold the test tool under the detector so that the test beaker s flush wth the trm rng. Note: Do not tp the test tool, or the detector mght come loose. 4. By coverng the scattered lght areas, both optcal sensors are trggered smultaneously (no smoke aerosol s requred). 5. Ths can take up to 20 sec. An alarm actvates and the red LED lghts. If the panel s n test mode, the alarm resets automatcally. 9. CO and Smoke Test for the FCP-500-C / FCP-500-C-P The CO sensor has not been evaluated to the requrements of UL 2075 or for ts ablty to detect a fre. The FCP-500-C and FCP-500-C-P detect carbon monoxde (CO) as a component of a fre. It s not a CO detector and cannot actvate an alarm n the presence of CO only. It s used to adjust the senstvty of the smoke detector. Perform the CO sensor test once a year to confrm that the sensor s functonng. Note: For testng use only: - Test Tool for Optcal Smoke Detectors Solo 330 (Product ID 4.998.112.071) - wth FAA-500-TTL Test Adapter wth Magnet (Product ID F.01U.508.725) - Solo CO Testng Gas (Product ID 4.998.142.221) 1. Conduct step 1 to 5 of Secton 8. (Smoke Test) to ensure that the smoke sensor s functonng. After ths an alarm actvates and the red LED lghts steady. Don t reset the detector. 2. If over 70 ppm of carbon monoxde s appled to the detector, the red LED of the detector starts flashng. Ths ndcates that the carbon monoxde sensor s workng. 3. Reset the detector by removng the power.
