Away from it all. Zürichberg has always been known to locals as Zurich s most exclusive residential area. Just minutes from the city centre, an almost rustic calm prevails, and the bustle of the city seems far away. The stately Villa Hatt has occupied a prominent position on this hill since 1927, when it was built by Heinrich Hatt, owner of a well-known Swiss construction company, as his family seat. The magnificent house still holds the power to impress, thanks to its architecture and the unspoilt majesty of the view over the city of Zurich to the lake and the mountains beyond. Villa Hatt can be reached by public transport, followed by a five-minute walk. It is possible to approach by car through the narrow local streets, but there are only two parking spaces available. It takes about 15 minutes to get down to the ETH Zurich. 2

A house with a history and a new lease of life. The property, comprising a main building, a summer house with a garage, and a terraced garden, was bequeathed to the ETH Zurich by the then owner, Mrs Hatt, in 2004. A condition of the legacy was that the house should con tinue to be used. Villa Hatt is listed as a protected building, part of the city s artistic and cultural heritage, so the renovation and conversion called for a very sensitive and skilful approach. Since spring 2008, Villa Hatt has been hosting formal events for individuals and institutions of the ETH. Those concerned, directly or as intermediaries, are mainly members of the Executive Board of the ETH, the ETH Foundation or the ETH Council, as well as pro fes sors, department heads and heads of service departments. On occasions, the doors of Villa Hatt are opened to companies from the wider circles of institutes and senior academics. As a result, this house, so rich in tradition, continues to be filled with life: as a meeting place, a guest house, a venue for seminars and con fe rences, and as a stylish backdrop for receptions and events. 4

The exclusive venue for special occasions. Combining the gracious charms of days long past with modern amenities of the highest standard, Villa Hatt offers a unique setting for diverse occasions, involving a select number of participants. In view of the select and tranquil location, we do try to ensure that the events held there have minimum impact on the environment. Depending on the weather, personal pre ferences and the number of participants, events can be organized indoors, in various configurations, or outside, where there is a large terrace high above the city, a garden with mature trees, and a sheltered loggia, between rows of columns. Villa Hatt offers so many different options. One thing is certain: A meeting room and two smaller work rooms, equipped with all the conference facilities expected today, are available for seminars and meetings of up to 18 participants. the venue will leave lasting impressions. Guests and participants in events, gatherings and seminars will appreciate and enjoy the special ambiance of the house. 10
