RECYORK ONLINe York Sport & Recreation is pleased to offer online registration for all programs and memberships. To register online: Visit yorkulions.ca/recyork. Click on Login and then Retrieve Login. Use the email address that is registered with York. Not sure which email is registered with York? Click on the Registrars office link on the Retrieve Login page to find your email. Once logged in, find the class/membership option you are interested in and complete the steps on the screen. If you are signing up for an instructional class, buy your membership first (and complete the transaction by paying for it) and then proceed with the registration for the instructional class. Once you have registered for your fitness membership, pick up your shoe-tag from Client Services so you can access the Fitness Centre. If there are any questions regarding online registration, please speak with a member of the Client Services staff. YORK STUDENTS For current students, a valid YU-card and membership is required to enter the building. Lost YU-cards must be replaced by the YU-card office. Student Basic Membership Access to gymnasia, pool and squash courts. This membership is free for York students. Student Fitness Membership Basic package plus access to the Fitness Centre and unlimited dropin fitness classes. York students can purchase the student fitness membership online or at Client Services for a non-refundable fee of $15 for a shoe tag. Shoe tags must be visible at all times and can be replaced for $15 if lost. 3. Do students need to register to attend the group drop-in fitness classes and/or use the Fitness Centre? Yes, a valid shoe tag ($15) and PAR-Q screening are required for all students to use the Fitness Centre and participate in all fitness and wellness classes. 4. Can I transfer to a different class? Yes, transfers are allowed, except when a course is full. You must bring your receipt, YU-card, membership card or photo ID to Client Services. You are required to pay for any additional fees if the new course is more expensive. 5. Can I get a refund? Instructional refunds are allowed prior to the start of the second class, less a $15 administration fee. Full refunds will be issued if an instructional class is cancelled for the term. Depending upon schedule availability, make-up classes may be offered. There is no rental fee for basketballs, volleyballs or soccer balls. There is a $2 rental fee for squash, tennis, table tennis and badminton racquets. Squash balls, tennis balls and various other items can be purchased at Client Services. Lost or damaged equipment is subject to a replacement fee. Guest Policy Any client who would like to use our facility for a day can do so by providing current government-issued photo ID and paying a $10 fee. All guests must be 17 years or older. Guests under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Forgotten Cards All students and members unable to present the appropriate access card, but who have alternate photo ID and proof of membership affiliation, may enter for $2 fee. Locker, Towel and T-shirt Service Fees will be pro-rated on a monthly basis to correspond with an individual s membership term that will expire at the end of April, August or December. Towel service allows a user one towel per day (1-towel service) or two towels (or 1 towel + shirt) per day. Daily lock, towel or T-shirt rentals are available for $2. Access cards are required. All lockers are to be cleaned or renewed on or before the expiry date. After this date, Tait McKenzie Centre staff will clear the locker and store the contents for a $20 administrative charge. After 30 days, all content will be donated to a charity. MEMBERSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS To ensure our members and guests enjoy a safe and positive experience, we request that all members and guests acknowledge and abide by the following rules, polices and guidelines. As well, all participants are subject to University policies and guidelines on campus property. Memberships, the Fitness Centre and group drop-in fitness classes are open to anyone 17 years of age and over. Children under the age of 17 (proof of age may be required) are admitted free when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian member (child must be accompanied by parent/ guardian for all activities within the facility). Children under the age of 17 are not permitted in the Fitness Centre and drop-in group fitness classes Memberships can be purchased for a minimum of one month and a maximum of 12 months. Locker and towel services are based on a four, eight or 12-month term and are pro-rated to the end of August, December or April. Payment can be made by cash, debit card, credit card or YU-card. Cheques or partial payments are not accepted. Payroll deduction is offered to full-time York employees with a minimum of an eight-month membership. Continuous payroll deduction is an option with 12-month membership only. A membership may be cancelled at any time within 10 days after receiving the written copy of the agreement. After this time membership and services are non-refundable. Membership fees include regular and periodic closures. As such, there are no extensions granted to memberships for such closures. Fraudulent use of access or YU-card will result in a suspension of privileges. Violation of any building policies and procedures may result in suspension of privileges. In this class you will use resistance tubing, hand weights, BOSU balls and more, for an integrated and intensive body work out that ends with a rejuvenating stretch. (High Intensity Interval Training) H.I.I.T. is an intense metabolic work out! You will improve muscle strength and endurance while burning calories long after this work out is completed. Combat Core Think you can handle 30 full minutes of core? Attack your abs in every way while boosting your energy with kickboxing intervals of metabolic activities. We will provide a brief overview of the Fitness Centre policies, tour exercise areas and try equipment, learn about Recreation York programs & services and answer your specific exercise questions Orientations run all September, Monday through Friday at 10am and 4:30pm. Fitness Centre Events Improve your fitness levels by participating in any or all of the Fitness Centre fitness challenges. Each month, Fitness Centre staff will create a different fitness challenge designed to put your fitness to the test. Watch the Fitness Centre bulletin board or check the Recreation York website for more details. Personal Training Are you spending the time in the gym but not getting the results that you desire? Are you a new exerciser or returning to exercise and don t know where to start? Do you want to make the best use of your limited available workout time? Campus Recreation staff are all certified personal trainers. We offer: 1) Fitness Starter (Fitness Assessment & initial exercise program) 2) One-On-One Personal Training 3) Small Group Personal Training (up to 5 participants) *New Fitness Starter $55 Times and dates to be set up with Fitness Centre staff. This package consists of a total of two hours with a personal trainer over two separate visits. Your first visit begins with a comprehensive fitness assessment, following the protocols of our fitness assessment program. With your assessment results, your current fitness level and your individual fitness goals as our guideline, we create a personalized workout program for you. During your second visit, your trainer and you go through your workout program, ensuring your understanding and ability to perform all exercises. This is a great way to help eliminate the confusion surrounding how often you should exercise, how much you should do and, most importantly, what you should be doing. All personal training session packages include a preliminary comprehensive fitness assessment (one additional hour). You now have the option of registering for packages that include either three, six or nine sessions. We now offer two convenient options: 1. Create your own group: Work out with your friends on a day and at a time that is most convenient for all of you. This is a very cost-effective method of training with a personal trainer but within the supportive environment of your friends and on a schedule and frequency that your group has identified. Determine your Body Mass Index (BMI), weight, height and waist girth measurements. All results are based on health risk zones and percentiles according to your age and gender. Over the next 4 6 weeks, you will have three onehour personal training sessions with a certified trainer who will assist you in setting realistic fitness goals and provide you with the direction and motivation to achieve them. Our nutritional consultant will provide initial nutrition recommendations and four weeks into the start of your exercise routine, schedule a half-hour nutritional follow-up session to review the next steps toward a lifelong commitment to health and fitness. Paperwork, including a five-day food diary, a general health questionnaire and an informed consent form are to be picked up from the Fitness Centre and completed before your scheduled appointments. Children between the ages of nine and 10 years, who are non-swimmers and or weak swimmers, must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is at least 14 years of age. The parent/guardian is responsible for the child(ren) s direct supervision in the water. The ratio of non-swimmers to parent/guardian may be a maximum of four bathers to one parent/guardian (4:1). Stroke Improvement- Level 2 Stroke improvement (level 2) is designed for the adult with good swimming ability who is interested in a structure workout, feedback on stroke technique and improvement and fitness in the water. Prerequisites: Must be able to swim 200 metres (8 lengths) of any strokes continuously and tread water for two minutes.
