Creative industries are as diverse as the people that work in the field with career opportunities available in a range of areas including fashion, music and sound production, interior design, graphic design, acting and video production. As a creative professional you will be able to use your individual creativity, skill, talent and hard work to pave the way to a rewarding career. You will learn from teachers who have years of experience working and specialising in their own creative fields. Teachers will impart their knowledge and mentor you as your find your own creative. Hunter TAFE offers state-of-the art facilities including editing suites, design studios, textile rooms, workshop spaces and art studios where you will work on creative projects both individually and collaboratively with your fellow students. Creative Industries, Fashion and Media courses offer career pathways for people who have a creative flair and imagination with a range of specialisations including: Digital Media and Communication Fashion Design Fine Arts Graphic Design Interior Design Music Theatre and Performance BEAU CLARKE, DIPLOMA OF APPLIED FASHION DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY Beau is a passionate and dedicated student who has developed key skills to transform creative ideas into commercial fashion designs. He is a focused student and throughout his studies has always pursued selfdevelopment opportunities, taking pride in presentation and paying keen attention to detail in his designs. DIGITAL MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION FASHION DESIGN Do you dream of working behind the lens directing Australian cinema or working as part of an animation team in the studios of Pixar or Disney? Digital media and communication offers a rewarding and exciting career path for people who are both technically minded and have an eye for detail. Qualifications can lead to job opportunities in video production and editing, directing, developing and designing interactive video games, animation and camera operation for example. You will learn the use of the latest technical equipment and software programs used by industry and develop competencies in the production process giving you the skills to see a project through from start to finish. There is something to be said about the elegance and grace of transforming luxurious materials into garments that will be worn and enjoyed by people all over the world. This is a dynamic and exciting industry for people with a passion for fashion! Qualifications can lead to careers in fashion design, costume design and millinery through to jobs within the corporate side of the industry for product merchandisers, collection developers and manufacturers. Our industry experienced teachers deliver training programs that will put you a step ahead of the rest as you learn the fundamentals of the industry from sketching and pattern making to advanced design and manufacturing processes. FINE ARTS The world of art is steeped in history. This raw form of expression has evolved over time, with influences in society and new applications and techniques. Artists have the ability to influence and inspire, and are widely celebrated by cultural events, galleries and institutions. The teachers at Newcastle Art School are all practicing artists with established identities in the art world. Your teachers will help your develop skills and technique and mentor you as an artist, encouraging you to explore your creativity. Fine arts are suited to creative and imaginative people who are self-driven and can lead to careers for artists, painters, print makers, ceramic artists, curators, gallery assistants or art teachers. GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERIOR DESIGN Graphic design is where traditional drawing meets technology. Designers are responsible for developing and executing the visual identity of brands to ensure that the imagery and typography in advertising stands out from the rest. Graduates will develop knowledge and expertise in visual design that will enable you to work in a variety of contexts and media including print, packaging, video and info graphics and will develop skills in working with clients to meet design briefs and help them achieve their goals. Qualifications in graphic design can lead you to a number of exciting career paths be it an in-house graphic designer in a businesses marketing department, working on developing graphics for websites or a designer in a large advertising agency. Imagine the floors and walls of a house are your canvas as you work with the different colours, textures and lines of furniture, artwork, lighting and fabrics to transform this house into a home. Using your eye for detail and design aesthetic you create a perfect look that reflects the personality and lifestyle of your clients. Qualifications will enable you to work as an interior designer developing concepts and executing the design of office spaces, hotel lobbies, restaurant and bar fit-outs, and the homes of families from all walks of life. THEATRE AND PERFORMANCE MUSIC The Hunter has a thriving arts and theatre scene. With no shortage of local talent the region is a great breeding ground for those who love to be in the spotlight. You will be taught and supervised by highly qualified, experienced and award-winning teachers who will mentor you through your intensive and exhilarating creative development. Hunter TAFE s Regional Institute of Performing Arts (RIPA) offers a range of courses in acting, music theatre and live performance. At RIPA graduates gain knowledge, skills, practical application and professionalism that will better position you for employment opportunities in the performing arts, entertainment and arts-related industries, such as health, youth, education and community sectors. NEWCASTLE ART SCHOOL Newcastle Art School is an exciting, intensive learning environment where all our teachers are recognised artists themselves. Newcastle Art School has trained curators, press photographers, staff of state museums and independent arts entrepreneurs. Decked out with the latest technology, the facility at our Hunter Street Campus boasts drawing and painting studios, printmaking facilities, a design room, traditional and digital photography labs and a sculpture facility. RIPA RMI The Regional Institute of Performing Arts (RIPA) is an innovative and energetic centre for performing arts education. RIPA focuses on developing knowledge, skills and technique that enable our graduated to gain employment. Students are trained in techniques to develop their acting, writing, directing and producing skills based on methodologies of leading theorists and practitioners. The Regional Music Institute (RMI) is Hunter TAFE s industry leading music school which focuses on developing graduates with practical industry ready skills in music performance, production, music business and technical production skills.
