1 Goldsmiths Institute for Creative & Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE) What makes us special is that we work in a transdisciplinary way. Our learners have different backgrounds, experience and expertise, through which we develop new creative alliances and approaches to enterprise and culture
2 ******* Key features We answer the need for business, management and entrepreneurial skills in the creative industries We offer a place for experimentation, where music, drama, dance, fine art, design, communications, media and technology can learn from each other We engage directly with external partners from the creative industries and other HE institutions 2
3 Entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths The Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE) delivers a range of academic programmes, and presents activities and events to promote an environment in which cultural, creative and social entrepreneurship can flourish. Our approach is to integrate entrepreneurship within the development of practice, and to take a creative approach to the development of new types of businesses and the infrastructure that supports them while raising awareness about the wider contexts in which these activities are developed. Reflecting on cultural organisations, we encourage you to critically analyse current management and policy practice at both micro and macro levels, and recognise your potential to create new models and practice for both. We create the conditions for you to understand and challenge your own world views, and to make informed decisions about your professional life by studying cultural policy and practice transdisciplinarily, in connection with international cultural relations and cultural tourism. We take the view that entrepreneurship is the creation of value this value could be social, aesthetic or financial and that when entrepreneurial activity is strong the three strands are interwoven. Therefore we are also committed to promoting conscious forms of social entrepreneurship and innovation whereby creativity and culture are harnessed to bring about positive change at the local and global levels. As well as offering postgraduate taught and research degrees, we run training for people who are developing businesses around a creative practice or an area of expertise, and for local or national policy makers who want to understand how to create the infrastructure needed to support an environment of creative entrepreneurship. We offer engagement activities that enable students and academics to work with industry partners to develop and explore new enterprises, and events to encourage debate and networking between all involved in the sector. In 2010, ICCE launched the SYNAPSE programme. This programme is available to all departments in the College, and offers Goldsmiths students the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial thinking and tools to map their future. This is not the same as the tools for an enterprise start up, but a means for students to think about their future and the impact they would like to make. Our innovative research ICCE is both research and pedagogically led. We are aware that our students are part of the research culture undertaking innovative research and practice work that will shape our understanding of, and potential to contribute to the creative, cultural and social economies. As can be seen from our staff research profiles (page 7), there is a diversity and interconnecting richness in both subjects and methodologies. These come together to inform our postgraduate taught and research programmes. Visit icce for full details of our degrees 3

5 Our degrees MA in Arts Administration & Cultural Policy ma-arts-admin-cultural-policy This Masters offers you the chance to engage with the key issues in the formulation of arts and cultural policy and the administration of the arts, in particular those relating to the performing arts. It will enable you to develop an awareness of and a critical approach to the discipline, by studying arts policy and practice in Europe, audience development, fundraising, arts education, cultural tourism, regeneration through arts, arts diversity and social inclusion, copyright and the role of the arts in cultural relations and diplomacy as well as national and cultural identity. Through individual research and a placement with an arts company or management organisation you will develop essential practical skills to enhance your potential and your employability as an arts administrator. MA in Cultural Policy & Tourism ma-cultural-policy-tourism Designed for students from around the world, and different academic/professional backgrounds, this MA will help you understand, apply and critically evaluate the changing and diverse relationships between culture, arts, politics and tourism. Studying the role of culture in tourism in London is a unique opportunity to observe policies and practices that connect with a wide range of relevant issues such as regeneration and development, project management, cultural diversity, heritage and the arts, and place branding. The course also addresses policy, professional and practitioner concerns and issues in those sectors through practical examples at local, national and global dimensions involving a wide range of organisations (governments, corporations, NGOs and individuals). MA in Creative & Cultural Entrepreneurship ma-creative-cultural-entrepreneurship This programme will be attractive to those who either wish to develop a business arising from an existing creative practice or to understand how to create the infrastructure and environment for new creative businesses in the fields of Computing, Design, Fashion, Media and Communications, Music or Theatre and Performance. The programme is designed to allow you to continue to innovate, but also to provide the business/entrepreneurial skills and attributes to commercialise your creative and cultural practices and/or knowledge. The degree is taught across departments, and our collective approach is designed to integrate entrepreneurship within the development of creative practices and to take a creative approach to the development of businesses and the infrastructure that supports them. Student insight Tsu-Chi, MA in Creative & Cultural Entrepreneurship My MA life at Goldsmiths is quite demanding but it s worthwhile because I can meet so many amazing people and experience the life in London.
