ADOPT A SCHOOL CAMPAIGN! LAUNCH EVENT PICTURE SPEAK SAROVA PANAFRIC 11 TH FEBRUARY 2015
Adopt a School Campaign! An initiative by Jielimishe GEC Project together with MoEST and County Government. Seeks to support marginalized girls through mentorship and conducive learning environment for better quality education. Will bring together MoEST, County Governments and Corporates to support and improve education. Will initiate the Employers challenge to support and improve education in county schools
The Problem These are the barriers affecting attendance, and improved learning for the girl child. Negative cultural practices - Female Genital Mutilation & Early Marriages Slow implementation of Government pro-girl policies - Lack of sanitary towels for girls & Slow implementation of back to school policy - Parents and community ignorance of MoEST pro-girl policies. Need for structured mentorship and inspiration mechanisms in schools Limited support for infrastructure development in schools - Toilets, desks, classrooms, ICT for learning, Biometric School Information Management System (BioSIM) etc Poor parental attitude and support towards the girls education. Parents need to pay school fees in time for the girl child.
