5 A sponsored child tells his story When I was growing up, life was hard. I lived with my mother in a small community in Costa Rica. My father was gone and mom worked hard to provide for our needs. Still, it was a struggle just to get enough food. I couldn t even go to school or see the doctor when I got sick. Then Mr. and Mrs. Wilson decided to sponsor me through Christian Children s Fund of Canada. At such a young age, I didn t know where Canada was, but I was always thrilled to receive their letters from a far away land. Their monthly support made all the difference. It let me get regular check-ups from the doctor and go to school! Education opened doors and inspired me. Because of the Wilsons help, I was able to go to Texas to further my education. There I met and married a wonderful woman from Canada and we now have four children of our own. I want them to know they can help children who don t have the things we sometimes take for granted healthy food, a warm bed and a safe house just like the Wilsons helped me.
