Qualifications The SIS30313 Certificate III in Fitness qualification is your entry level to work in the fitness industry, one of the fastest growing industries in Australia. The fitness instructor qualification provides you with the knowledge and skills to work in the areas of gym or group exercise instruction. The SIS40210 Certificate IV in Fitness qualification is required to work as a personal trainer in a gym or through your own business. This qualification provides the skills and knowledge to set up your own business and run personal training sessions in a range of environments. The YMCA s Certificate III and IV in Fitness Instructor courses are recognised and accredited by Fitness Australia and Physical Activity Australia, and are recognised in many countries around the world including New Zealand, Canada, and the UK. Course Delivery The YMCA s fitness courses that are delivered by Resolute Fitness in Toowoomba are conducted using three main methods: 1. A series of self-paced learning materials and a textbook that contain the required theory information to complete the course. These are combined with assessment items that are compiled by your lecturer throughout the duration of your course. 2. Theory based Workshops held at regular intervals to teach the underpinning knowledge required to participate in the practical workshops. 3. Practical workshops are held at regular intervals, allowing students have consistent learning experiences. Each student has access to a Resolute Fitness Services lecturer to help them understand the concepts being covered through face to face tutorial, telephone or email support. The structure of the YMCAs courses allows you to work at your own pace through the course materials. Our support services mean that you can get assistance when you need it. All students have a maximum of twelve months to complete the course you can complete as quickly or as slowly as you like. The flexible nature of the course allows you to work your study around your other commitments and allows you to spend as much time as you require on the course content. Course Details Learning Materials You will be issued with a workbook and you will also receive a textbook which for the Certificate III course is Frederic Delaviers the Strength Training Anatomy Workout. This textbook is like having an X-Ray for each exercise. The textbook for the Certificate IV in Fitness is the NSCA s Essentials of personal training, a comprehensive training resource. The YMCA s materials and the provided textbooks contain the information you will need to know to successfully complete the theory requirements of the course. Practical Workshops The practical sessions are a vital component of your training course as they enable you to learn and practice the skills that will be required of you in the workplace. These sessions are conducted in real time PT clinics and Gyms Assessment To successfully complete the course, students are required to work through the assessments for each unit. Each assessment contains a series of questions that are designed to allow you to apply the knowledge you are learning. Once you have completed the written assessment requirements Resolute Fitness will submit them to the YMCA to be to be processed. Students have twelve months to complete each course. Students may apply for an extension, but additional costs will apply.

Practical Workshop Details The practical sessions are designed to be hands on, allowing you to practice the skills you require in a real time industry setting. The workshops also allow you to apply the knowledge you have gained, thereby forming the links between theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The practical sessions cover: Client Screening and Fitness Testing Postural Appraisal Exercise Technique and Analysis Programming Exercise Delivery YMCA Fitness Assessment Details There are three main types of assessment that you will undertake in order to complete either fitness certificate. These are: 1. Assignments The assignments will be in the form of written questions and fitness industry scenarios. You will be required to submit these to your Trainer for marking. 2. Observations You will be observed performing set skills such as teaching a fitness program, motivating clients and conducting fitness assessments. These observations are conducted at each practical session and at the end of the course. 3. Practical workshops and assessment Our practical workshops and assessment method is designed to provide you with a better understanding of the fitness industry and the range of program delivery options available to a fitness instructor. This is particularly important for individuals not currently employed in the fitness industry. You will be required to complete these sessions where you will observe and participate in, health appraisals / assessments; programs / personal training sessions; and understand the process for maintenance of fitness equipment.

YMCA Industry Partners Resolute Fitness Chris and Maree Clayton Chris Clayton Chris has been around the fitness and sport training industry since 1981. He currently owns and operates Resolute Fitness Services with his wife Maree. Resolute Fitness is a business that primarily focusses on both manual and movement remedial therapies, that also incorporates health wellbeing and fitness modalities. Chris also studies in the field of spatial medicine which is based on Mr Thomas Myers system of Kinesis Myofascial Integration. Chris has been a teacher and lecturer in the martial arts (over 34 years), Australian Defence Force (Seventeen Years) and within the VET system for (10 years). Chris holds a number of qualifications including - Diploma Fitness - Diploma Sport Coaching - Diploma Sport Development - Certificate IV TAE - Cert IV Small Business Management - Certificates in IV Fitness, Sport Coach Martial Arts Maree Clayton Maree has been dedicated to health and fitness for many years. As mentioned above Maree runs Resolute Fitness Services with Chris and the focus of her work is on manual remedial therapies. Maree is currently studying Structural Integration under the Kinesis Myofascial Integration - Australia, which is headed up by Mr Thomas Myers from the USA. The early years of Maree s involvement in fitness take her back to the early 80 s and being involved with freestyle group fitness. Maree possesses many years of experience as a PT, a Group fitness instructor and as a therapist. Maree holds a number of qualifications including - Diploma Fitness - Diploma Sport Coaching - Diploma Sport Development - Diploma Remedial Massage Therapy - Diploma Reflexology - Certificate IV TAE - Certificates in IV Fitness, Sport Coach Martial Arts

Skills Assessment The skills assessment is used to identify current skills that have been developed through employment or previous training experience. A skills assessment may include review of qualification, questioning and/or observation. A skills assessment can identify opportunities for recognition of prior learning that can reduce workload and course cost. Extensions Students have twelve months to complete the course. If the course has not been completed within that time, the enrolment will expire and students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the units completed. An application for an extension may be submitted in writing to the Director of Training. Extensions will incur additional continuing student support and assessment services fee of $50 per month over the specified course duration. YMCA Fitness Student Support Services All Students are welcome to communicate with their (YMCA) Resolute Fitness lecturer for assistance with course content, assessment tasks, and other course information. It is best to maintain a list of questions, or areas of concern relating to learning objectives. Every contact session has time allocated to assisting students with any study concerns they may have. Remember your lecturer will guide you with your work to the best of their abilities, but they are not there to simply give you the answers. We also offer a study room for students that need a quiet place to study in business hours, on an appointment only basis at our 86 Water Street South location.

YMCA - Resolute Fitness Services (Industry Partner) Refund Policy Students are not eligible for a refund once a completed enrolment form and deposit have been received. Resolute Fitness Services will not consider a refund of course fees once the student has attended their first workshop. We shall only consider exemptions to this policy in the event of extenuating medical circumstances or financial hardship (Medical certificates or other supporting evidence may be requsted). Course deposits are not refunded after the enrolment has been sent to YMCA Brisbane (Normally 3 business days after enrolment) Applications with supporting evidence must be submitted in writing to the Director of Resolute Fitness Services and may also be forwarded to YMCA Brisbane for assessment.
