2016 Sponsorship Packet
About Tour de Tulsa Tour de Tulsa has been a spring cycling ritual for Tulsa-area cyclists for more than 28 years. The charity bike ride is hosted by the Tulsa Bicycle Club and the Tulsa Health Department. Over 500 cyclists from across the state and region participate each year. Last year s Tour de Tulsa brought in a record breaking 704 registered cyclists. The 29th annual Tour de Tulsa is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, 2016. Participating cyclists have the opportunity to meet other cyclists, get some miles under their belt and maybe ride their first century of the season. Tour de Tulsa offers routes ranging from 25 to 100 miles, as well as 5 or 10-mile family fun rides. Pathways to Health The proceeds from Tour de Tulsa benefit Pathways to Health, which unites over 90 local agencies, organizations, corporations and health systems together to improve health outcomes in Tulsa County. Pathways to Health was formed in 2008 in response to a challenge to decrease the overlap of health services and identify gaps where health leaders are missing vulnerable populations. The goal of Pathways to Health is to connect community health resources to those who need it most. Pathways to Health brings together local community health stakeholders to share ideas, increase synergies, and complement each other s strengths. We believe through partnership anything is possible. Pathways to Health Donation Pathways to Health distributed 100% of the proceeds from the 2015 Tour de Tulsa to community partners. Pathways to Health donated $13,500 to Humble Sons Bike Co. to purchase 200 bikes and helmets, as well as two bike racks for the YMCA and Tulsa Hub summer program. It s a great a program. This is the second year we ve done this, said Tommy Chavez, co-founder of Humble Sons Bike Co. It s a wonderful program to get kids out, active, learn how to ride bikes, learn how to work on bikes and they also learn a bunch of bicycle safety. board member. Watching the kids faces light up when they were told that they would all receive a bike confirmed my confidence that given the opportunity kids are motivated to be active. Along with this donation, P2H donated $5,000 to The Foundation for Tulsa Schools to support Tulsa Public Schools Bike Clubs. Bike clubs in the six selected elementary schools meet after school once a week to learn safety, maintenance and get the opportunity to explore their community with adult mentors. Once the students complete the school year, they are rewarded with a bike that they can take home. Each summer for four weeks, staff and volunteers work with 200 kindergarten through 6th grade students five days a week. This summer s four-week program was held at Wright Elementary. At the end of the six week camp, the students were told only five of the kids would receive a free bike from a drawing but the fifth ticket revealed all of the students would take home a brand new bike and helmet. Pathways to Health was honored to support this initiative as encouraging physical activity addresses our key initiative- obesity, said Leslie Carroll, P2H
