Employers expect to hire over 25,000 OS&H professional over the next 5 years including approximately 2,250 occupational health nurses. Need to produce additional graduates, particularly... occupational health nurses. - National Assessment of the Occupational Safety and Health Workforce National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), October 3, 2011 On-site workplace clinics used to be primarily focused on treating people injured on the job. Then companies added primary care and started emphasizing preventive screenings and other wellness services. In 2011, 31 percent of employers with 500 or more workers had on-site clinics, and another 9 percent said they were considering them. - Big companies offering more on-site health care for employees The Washington Post June 18 Occupational Health Nurse Practitioners are professionals trained at USF to seamlessly interact in interprofessional settings. USF OHNs have high national certification pass rates. Nationally there is a shortage of OHNs ensuring a constant need. In addition, many worksites have employee health, primary care clinics on site as an effective strategy to curb health care costs USF OHNs are well prepared to tackle the occupational health needs of today and tomorrow! - Burns, Candace M., PhD, MS, ARNP Professor, Concentration Director, Occupational Health Deputy Director, Sunshine Education and Research Center USF Health lives its mission of Making Life Better. The Sunshine ERC is unique because of its strong interdisciplinary activities; use of distance learning for education; programs addressing under-representation of minorities; research focus on NORA priorities; recognition as a state and regional resource in occupational safety and health; and demonstration of strong internal/ institution support. Transform Healthcare, Transform Lives as a Clinical Nurse Leader! The USF MS/ MPH Dual Degree Program prepared me as a leader in occupational safety and health and overall population health. The faculty in both the Colleges of Nursing and Public Health challenged me, nurtured me. My education and experiences have equipped me to become one of the next generation of nurse leaders. Exposure to numerous educational and research opportunities has provided me a strong foundation to pursue postmaster s study. The interdisciplinary interactions prepared me for national level leadership responsibilities. I am proud to be a Bull Nurse. Joseph Bertulfo, MS, MPH, NP-C Deputy Director (Acting), Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention, National Centers for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion My experiences in the USF MS / MPH Dual Degree Occupational Health Nursing Program were literally life-changing. I first entered nursing as a diploma nurse so my road to advanced practice has been long - yet very rewarding. It has opened multiple doors for employment opportunities as well as returning to USF for the DNP degree and completing my signature residency in occupational health. I am proud to use my expertise to help transform the lives of our nursing and other health care personnel to promote health and wellness, prevent illness and injury and provide care to those who are injured on the job collaboratively with colleagues from other disciplines. Helen Acree Conlon, DNP, MS, MPH, ARNP-BC, COHN-S Nurse Practitioner, Employee Health Services, All Children s Hospital; Johns Hopkins Medicine Deputy Director, Occupational Health Nursing Program The USF MS/MPH Dual Degree Program in Occupational Health Nursing gave me the tools to be a leader and innovator in occupational health and safety and my profession. Where you get your occupational health nursing education matters; all programs do not prepare occupational health nurse practitioners. I was exceptionally well prepared to obtain national certifications in occupational health nursing and adult nurse practitioner. I was also well prepared to enter the PhD program at USF. The faculty and resources in both the Colleges of Nursing and Public Health are everything you would expect of a major research university. As an alumnus, I would certainly recommend USF! Christine Bouchard, PhD, MPH, ANP-BC, COHN-S Director, Employee Health, West Virginia University Hospitals
