2 Leaders on the Move Dianne Morrison-Beedy, PhD, RN, WHNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN Senior Associate Vice President, USF Health Dean, College of Nursing The College of Nursing at the University of South Florida is on the move! In 2010, the College of Nursing passed many milestones in our progress to greater national prominence. We danced to the news of successful CCNE re-accreditation, stepped lively to my pace as new Dean, and realigned our organizational structure and strategic goals -deep breath-. Our faculty refocused efforts into Centers of Research Excellence, shifted gears to help veterans RESTORE LIVES, and nudged past national competitors to be ranked 28th nationally in NIH funding -deeper breath-. We redeployed resources to expand our clinical collaborations, promoted excellence with DNP Signature Residencies, and challenged traditional boundaries through interprofessional partnerships -really deep breath-. Our students raced to higher levels of success, pushed past the pack in NCLEX pass rates, and traveled far to gain a global perspective. Whew! Do we stop here? We are actually just getting started! The College of Nursing has been infused with the energy, enthusiasm and expertise of three world-class nursing professionals who have joined us as Associate Deans. Moving from across the nation, these leaders have been drawn to USF by our success in improving health through education, research, collaboration and practice. Together with our existing leadership, they will guide the efforts of our faculty, staff and students as we create the nursing leaders of tomorrow and the research that improves health.

3 Cindy L. Munro, RN, ANP, PhD, FAAN moved from Virginia Commonwealth University to join us as Associate Dean for Research and Innovation. Dr. Munro will lead the research efforts of an innovative nursing faculty that has been ranked 28th nationally in NIH funding. With a Center for Nursing Research and Centers of Research Excellence in Symptom Management, Oncology/Palliative/End-of-Life Care, Women s Health, and Psychoneuroimmunology, the College of Nursing achieved more than $3.3 million in external funding for faculty and students in This includes a $2.1 million federal grant to fund the RESTORE LIVES Center to help veterans heal from symptoms of combat exposure like PSTD and TBI. Dr. Munro will ensure that the Nursing PhD Program remains integral to our research efforts and continues producing the next generation of nurse scientists. We are creating the research that improves health by developing the science that redefines patient care. Rita F. D Aoust, PhD, ACNP, ANP-BC, CNE, FAANP moved from the University of Rochester to join USF as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Interprofessional Initiatives. Dr. D Aoust will lead academic nursing education programs at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels that are known throughout the region for excellence and responsiveness to community needs. USF has one of the first DNP programs approved in Florida, and is the first to offer Signature Residencies in high demand specialty areas. We are one of only two institutions to receive a $1.3 million federal grant to train nursing faculty in the use of simulation learning, informatics and telehealth. We are creating the nursing leaders of tomorrow who improve health through excellence in education and interprofessional initiatives along with other health professionals including our Colleges of Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, and the School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitative Services. Constance G. Visovsky, PhD, RN, ACNP-BC moved from the University of Nebraska Medical Center to join us as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Community Engagement. USF Nursing students continue to succeed at levels in the top tier nationally in NCLEX and certification scores. The college increases the USF global presence through educational opportunities such as our Community Health International Clinical Experiences in Panama. The college supports student success with initiatives such as focused advising, peer tutoring, learning services, professional counseling services, and international education experiences. Financially, we support our students by obtaining and distributing over $1 million annually in college-based aid. In addition, we are expanding clinical partnerships into an extended service area to meet community needs. Dr. Visovsky will ensure that the college continues to engage our community and offer opportunities for students to experience diverse populations and global health issues. We improve health as we create the nursing leaders of tomorrow by supporting student success, community collaboration, continuing education and global interaction. The USF College of Nursing is at a remarkable time with Leaders on the Move envisioning the brightest tomorrow and blazing the trail to get there. Dianne Morrison-Beedy

4 The College of Nursing at USF has a history of excellence and under Dean MorrisonBeedy s leadership is poised to be even more successful. 6 USF Nursing is already known as a leader with cutting-edge educational programs that address national standards while being responsive to local and global health needs. The support for Interprofessional Education throughout USF Health is crucial as nurses and other health professionals learn to work collaboratively. I fell in love with the faculty and energy here; everyone has a can-do attitude. I will apply my expertise to moving us toward greater educational excellence and interprofessional initiatives. 8 The USF College of Nursing has a long history of producing top-quality nurses and engaging the community to ensure program excellence. I believe our customer base is more than students; it also includes faculty, staff, alumni, hospitals and our community partners.
