JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Contract type: Mobile Application Developer / Web developer Fixed Term (2 Years) Grade: Grade 3 School or Unit: Location: Reporting to: Canolfan Peniarth Trinity Saint David Director of Canolfan Peniarth MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB The post of Mobile Application Developer will be responsible for: Developing, researching and employing new technologies and applications relevant to the aims of the projects; Keep up to date with new and upcoming technologies and hardware features on the ios/android platform so that as a team and as an individual we can incorporate these into new projects. Ensure best practice and performance for the final application in terms of speed, memory consumption and those detailed in Apple/Android documentation. Working with project teams, and independently, to prepare online interactive learning materials for use on the internal/external sites, e.g. NGFL Cymru; Ensuring that the mobile application meet the requirements of the University s Web Standards policy; This post requires the person to be self taught, self-motivated, and a team worker. Ensuring that the mobile application displays accurately on different types of mobile interfaces, Managing their own time and projects. All the work completed is client facing and therefore often subject to tight deadlines, so meticulous approach is required. SPECIFIC DUTIES 1a Communication (oral, written and electronic) - Standard Ensure that all communication is in accord with the University s Dignity at Work principles and Welsh Language Policy. Communicate effectively and professionally in both formal and informal situations with colleagues at all levels within the University, with students (and where applicable their parents / guardians / close relations). Engage appropriately with external contacts and members of the public, always representing the University in a positive way. Respond promptly to routine enquiries and requests for information, ensuring that a positive departmental and corporate image is created and maintained at all times. Communication will be mainly of straightforward information but occasionally will require careful explanation or interpretation to help others understand, taking into account what to communicate and how best to convey the information to others. 1b Communication Job Specific Receive, understand and convey straightforward information in a clear and accurate manner in a way which is suitable for all those involved in the University s projects. Assist the line manager, University, project team, project partners and business stakeholders in 1

Have a good command of written English, and Welsh (highly desirable due to the bilingual nature of successful tenders). Create a positive image of the University by being responsive and prompt in responding to requests and referring the user to a more senior or more appropriate person if necessary. Within this grade there will be a requirement, when dealing with internal or external contacts, to understand and explore customers needs bilingually in order to adapt the product accordingly. This adaptation will be within the University s existing policies and procedures. Practice appropriate standards of confidentiality and ensure that all documentation is securely and appropriately filed and stored. 2

4b Service Delivery Job Specific Develop, design and maintain professional websites for a range of projects operating across Canolfan Peniarth. Prepare interactive, multimedia graphics, images and text for use on the websites. Develop, research and employ new technologies and applications relevant to the web sites and the aims of the projects. Ensure that the websites meet the requirements of the University s Web Standards policy. Ensuring that the website displays accurately on different types of browsers, displays and operating systems, including those utilised by mobile devices, e.g. smart phones, ipads, android. Design forms, questionnaires and web based applications. Design cross platform apps for ipads and android technologies. 5a Decision Making Standard Take some independent decisions to a level that could have minor impact.
