If hardcopy supplied, please place in a sealed envelope marked Vacancy no 37 and address to: People & Capability Department Rotorua Lakes Council Private Bag 3029 Rotorua Mail Centre ROTORUA 3046 CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT a) The appointee will be responsible to General Manager, Destination Rotorua Marketing and will be expected to co-operate fully with all other departments of the District Council. b) While employed with Rotorua Lakes Council, no employee of Council shall hold any paid position or accept any retainer outside Council s service without prior approval of the relevant manager who has the delegated authority to approve such secondary employment with final approval from the People & Capability Manager/Chief Executive. Any such request or approval must be in writing and held on the staff member s personal file. Any honorary (unpaid) position held outside the primary role which may be held by the appointee must not interfere with the proper performance or form any possible conflict of interest to the appointee s duties with Council. c) The appointment may be terminated by either party giving one (1) month s notice of resignation or dismissal by the appointee or the employer. In instances of serious misconduct as defined in Council s Rules of Conduct, the Chief Executive or an officer who has delegated authority to do so may terminate the appointee s employment with Council without notice. d) The appointee will be eligible to join KiwiSaver on commencement and will also be invited to join the subsidised Local Authorities Superannuation Scheme administered by Council s Superannuation Provider, according to Council policy. e) The normal hours of work will be 40 hours per week, but the appointee will be expected to work such further hours as the position may demand. f) Annual holidays shall be allowed in accordance with the provisions of the Holidays Act 2003 and its amendments. g) The salary for the position will be commensurate with the successful applicant s skills, knowledge and experience. h) Personal lobbying of any member of Council by or on behalf of any applicant will disqualify the applicant.

POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION: REPORTS TO: GROUP: POSITION PURPOSE: Business Events Sales Manager General Manager Destination Rotorua Marketing Destination Rotorua Business Unit To provide leadership to the Destination Rotorua Business Events Sales team and drive the implementation of the Business Events Sales strategy as part of the overall Destination Rotorua contribution to the Rotorua 2030 goal of creating a $1billion visitor industry by 2030. The position will be responsible for enhancing Destination Rotorua s commitment to a public private partnership service delivery model including the delivery of Business Events marketing, sales, lead generation and conversion services. The role will have dual accountability for driving business events delegate conversion to both industry partner venues and the Rotorua Energy Events Centre (EEC). KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: In driving the implementation of the Business Events strategy the position will be responsible for the positioning of Rotorua as a recognised regional business events destination in NZ and Australia by building on our natural geographical, venue and tourism infrastructural strengths and a focus on developing a leadership position in targeted sectors of competitive advantage. To provide leadership to the Destination Rotorua Business Events Sales team in delivering Business Events marketing, sales, lead generation and conversion services including management of resources and motivating performance to achieve sales outcomes.. Lead the implementation of the Business Events Sales strategy including: o Implement and track organisation sales program. o Manage on a continuous basis achievement of sales goals and team productivity ensuring tactical delivery of program. o Lead the Rotorua Business Events Awareness & Positioning sales and marketing programs; o Lead the Rotorua Business Events Lead Generation & Conversion programs; o Lead development of Sector leaders engagement program; o Lead the research, reporting and benchmarking program; o Establish a strategy and team delivery focus on business events of less than 250 pax for industry partner venues and 250 pax+ for the EEC; o Lead the EEC sales and delivery integration presenting a unified proposition and interface for the customer. Including: revenue optimisation, service delivery, post event evaluation etc. o Management of key city accounts. Lead the team to achieve the conversion of the industry partner venues and EEC delegate targets as set in the annual business plan. Develop and facilitate the execution of an internal and external stakeholder engagement plan, including presenting compelling marketing and sales propositions, and deliver regular performance updates to key internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve buy-in and investment support. This includes a specific focus on the relationship with Rotorua Hotels and the Events & Venues department of Rotorua Lakes Council. Proven ability to deliver collective outcomes by balancing organisational and client objectives. Ability to work in and deliver outcomes in a changing environment with multiple stakeholder demands. An ability to work flexible hours to meet the demands of the role. Relevant qualification in business sales, marketing, communications or related discipline. Proven senior commercial sales experience in an operational environment including the development and implementation of sales and marketing plans.
