Located in the Bay of Plenty, the Rotorua District centres on a city developed around the southern shoreline of Lake Rotorua, taking in a substantial rural district including 13 major lakes. As well as the city area, there is a variety of small farming, forestry and lakeside rural communities offering a wide range of lifestyle choices. As nature s wonderland, Rotorua offers an adventure playground of outdoor activities, with its lakes and forests, parks and gardens, and awesome geothermal activity and natural hot pools. Rotorua is also the cultural heartland of New Zealand with Maori culture and values an integral part of the District s activities and character. The business of the District is very much focused around its natural resources, with the economic base centring on tourism, forestry and farming industries. Add to this the vibrant and diverse manufacturing and retailing sectors and a wide range of quality educational, health and social services, Rotorua certainly has something for everyone. Rotorua has recently enjoyed a period of substantial investment, both public and private, establishing the infrastructure for growth to take the city and district into a positive future.
