A selection panel consisting of two or more people will conduct the selection process. The selection panel determines the selection techniques to be utilised. Examples of techniques include shortlisting from application, interviews, presentations, work samples and relevant testing. Selection is on the basis of merit. The basis for selection is the relative merit of each applicant in relation to the key responsibilities identified in the role description. The position will be offered to the applicant with the most suitable abilities, skills, qualifications, knowledge, experience and personal qualities. Notifying you of the outcome Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in writing. The successful applicant s name may also be published in the Queensland Government Gazette.
7 Page 7 of 11 Feedback Feedback for both successful and unsuccessful applicants is available from a member of the selection panel following the conclusion of the selection process. Feedback will enable you to identify areas that you may need further development and/or experience in, which may greatly enhance your chance of success with future job applications. Applications remain current for 12 months Applications may remain current for 12 months after the closing date for receipt of applications for this vacancy. Future roles for which these applications may be considered may vary from this current role in terms of location and/or employment basis. Preparing for interview or other assessment The selection panel will generally identify a shortlist of applicants who potentially have the knowledge, skills, experience and, where applicable, mandatory qualifications, to perform in the advertised position. The selection panel may choose to conduct interviews and/or use other assessment methods for the shortlisted applicants to select the successful candidate. Before an interview or your participation in another assessment method, you should again review the role description to ensure you fully understand the key responsibilities and key attributes for the role. The selection panel will expect you to discuss how your experience, skills and career interest matches the role requirements specified in the key responsibilities and key attributes. Interview questions and other assessment methods may therefore provide you with the opportunity to: outline how your experience is relevant to the role discuss how you meet the key accountabilities, including your technical knowledge indicate how you would respond to situations that may arise if you were working in the role describe your previous achievements or responses to situations relevant to the key responsibilities (i.e. examples of your previous work). At an interview, be prepared to discuss examples of your work for each key accountability. You may also want to prepare questions to ask the selection panel members to clarify aspects of the role, the selection process or employment conditions. Pre-employment checks Pre-employment screening checks are concerned with specific job related requirements and help to ensure the integrity of our people and the services we provide. Examples of pre-employment screening checks include criminal history checks, child related duties checks, and discipline history checks and confirmation of qualifications and previous employment. You will find details of which checks are applicable in the role description.
8 Page 8 of 11 If we receive information that varies from what you have provided, we will seek clarification from you. Any statement in an application that is found to be deliberately misleading will result in disqualification from further consideration. If you are employed in the Queensland Public Service, this may be grounds for disciplinary action. Mandatory qualifications/professional registration Certain roles within the Queensland Ambulance Service have mandatory qualification or registration requirements. Any mandatory requirements or qualifications required for the role are indicated in the role description. Applicants for roles where these mandatory requirements are indicated must provide documentary evidence of compliance before they can be appointed (i.e. certified copies of qualifications held or current registration certificates). Where an applicant does not possess a qualification specified within a role description, it is the responsibility of the applicant to produce documentary evidence, acceptable to the authorised delegate, that any existing qualifications and/or experience held by the applicant are assessed as equivalent. Overseas qualifications can be submitted to the Overseas Qualification Unit, Department of Education, Training and Employment (DETE) for assessment to determine an equivalent Australian qualification. Please visit the DETE website or telephone for information about how to have your qualifications assessed. Advice can also be obtained through the relevant association, professional body or other appropriate agency. Criminal history When an applicant is recommended for a role, a criminal history check must be conducted if the applicant is not an existing permanent employee of the Department of Health. People recommended for appointment to the Queensland Ambulance Service will be asked to provide adequate proof of identity and written consent for the Queensland Ambulance Service to conduct a criminal history check through the Queensland Police Service. Failure (without reasonable explanation) to provide the appropriate documentation and consent will render the applicant unsuitable for the role. Please note candidates who have resided overseas may be required to obtain a criminal history clearance from the relevant country. Appointment to the role will be contingent on the satisfactory outcome of the criminal history check and the appointment cannot be finalised until the criminal history checking process is completed. Depending on the relevant duties of the role, having a criminal history may not necessarily result in disqualification for appointment. If, after obtaining a criminal history report, the authorised delegate considers that the recommended person may be unsuitable for the role, the recommended person may make written or oral representations about why they should be appointed before any final decision is made. Working with children check For some Queensland Ambulance Service roles, applicants will be subject to a working with children check as part of the employment screening process.
9 Page 9 of 11 The Queensland Ambulance Service is legally obliged to inform applicants that it is an offence for a disqualified person to sign a blue card application form. Further details regarding this check may be obtained from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian website All personal information obtained from the application process will be treated confidentially and held securely by the Queensland Ambulance Service. Failure to consent to the working with children check will render the applicant unsuitable for the role. Referee checking Referee checking is a mandatory requirement for all Queensland Ambulance Service employment. Your referees may be asked if there are any previous issues of performance or conduct that we should be aware of. If you are, or were formerly, a Queensland Government employee, the selection panel will ensure that reference checking is conducted in relation to all of your relevant employment with the Queensland Government. Referee checking also seeks information on whether an applicant already employed in the Queensland Public Service has previously been subject to disciplinary action. Your appointment to the Queensland Ambulance Service Notification of appointment Notification of your appointment will be published in the Queensland Government Gazette, if applicable. Probation Employees who are permanently appointed to the Queensland Ambulance Service may be required to undertake a period of probation, subject to the requirements of departmental policies and relevant industrial instruments. The role you are appointed to will determine the length of probation. Please contact the person nominated in the role description to find out if a probation period will apply to you. Appointment/transfer expenses You may be eligible to negotiate reimbursement of travel and relocation expenses and you can discuss this with the selection panel chair at any time during the selection process. Recognition of prior service For sick and long service leave purposes, new appointees to the Queensland Ambulance Service may, upon request, be given credit for prior service with the following entities: commonwealth and other state public services; statutory authorities; public hospitals; local government; and tertiary educational institutions.
