1 School of Marketing and International Business Lecturer in Marketing Base Salary Range: NZ $71,806 - $86,507 per annum Permanent full time position Reporting to Head of School Role Purpose and Scope The role of Lecturer in Marketing is to undertake teaching and research of high quality, to assist in programme development where appropriate, and to contribute to the effective management of the School, including relationships with practitioner communities. The School of Marketing and International Business School of Marketing and International Business (SMIB) is an integral part of Victoria University of Wellington. 2 Victoria University of Wellington Victoria University of Wellington is a state-funded University based in the capital city of New Zealand. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in New Zealand and is renowned for its teaching and research. It has established an international reputation for the high quality of its graduates and research and it has a proud tradition of academic excellence. The University consists of six faculties: Commerce, Architecture and Design, Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, Science and Law. Within these faculties are as many as 50 schools and research institutes. There are over 20,000 students from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, and approximately 2,000 permanent staff at Victoria, making it one of Wellington s most significant employers. Victoria University is situated overlooking the business and government districts of Wellington and close links are maintained between the Faculty and the city. Victoria Business School The Victoria Business School (Faculty of Commerce) is made up of six schools. These are Accounting and Commercial Law, Economics and Finance, Government, Information Management, Management and Marketing and International Business. The Pro Vice-Chancellor is Professor Bob Buckle. The Victoria Business School offers a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTM), a variety of Honours and Master s degrees, as well as PhD and DGov degrees. Included in the suite of Master s programmes are the Master of Applied Finance (MAF), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of e-government (MEGov), Master of Information Management (MIM), Master of Information Studies (MIS), Master of Professional Accounting (MPA), Master of Professional Economics (MPE), Master of Public Policy (MPP), Master of Public Management (MPM), and the Master of Tourism Management (MTM). A number of certificate, diploma and executive development courses are also offered throughout the Faculty. The Victoria Business School continually seeks formal accreditations and certifications from international organisations. The School is among just 58 business schools worldwide that hold the triple crown of international accreditations of the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Associations of MBAs (AMBA). We are among a select group of business schools worldwide and one of only three in Australasia and the only one in New Zealand to have achieved dual AACSB accreditation in business and accounting. Several other programmes have international accreditation including the Tourism programme, which is accredited by TedQual. The Master of Information Studies (with ARCR specialisation) is accredited by the Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia (known as the RIM Professionals Australasia), and the Master of Information Studies (with LIBS specialisation) is recognised by the Library Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (LIANZA). 3 Key Result Areas The Key Result Areas of Research, Teaching, Student Experience and Service are the basis for the primary duties and responsibilities of the role. Areas of focus will be agreed annually with the Head of School in the Performance Development and Career Plan (PDCP) Process. Other duties may be required from time to time as directed by the Head of the School. Research On-going research activity at a level appropriate to the career stage of a Lecturer as evidenced by: A developing record of scholarly research and a research agenda. Some publishing in disciplinary-relevant internationally refereed journals (i.e. where the refereeing process is of international standing) and/or with academically reputable national and/or international presses. Some indicators of the impact and significance, or potential for impact and significance, of research activities. Where appropriate, encouraging, contributing to and producing research outputs in the form of substantial creative works (e.g. creative performance etc.). Where appropriate, contributing to research which provides cultural innovation or socioeconomic benefits), nationally and internationally. Participating in research teams that may include members from other disciplines and institutions and that address national or international priority areas. Where possible, incorporating Maori and Pasifika perspectives and interests into your research. Engaging constructively and productively on research interests with colleagues within and outside the University. Successfully attracting Honours, and Masters and/or PhD students into the discipline, School or Faculty. Commitment to seeking and successfully attracting internal and/or national level funding for research activities. Teaching Commitment to teaching and learning as evidenced by: Commitment to teaching with academic rigour and to promoting students learning in the discipline in general and in your specialist area. Successful teaching, as evidenced by peer and student feedback. Developing and maintaining a high standard of teaching through professional development initiatives such as regularly seeking feedback and evaluation of your teaching practice, and using this to review and update your teaching practice. Conducting teaching in accordance with University policy, including assessment, course coordination and course materials. Regularly reviewing courses to ensure continuing relevance and incorporation of new research. Where possible, incorporating Maori and Pasifika perspectives in course content and teaching practice. Successfully supervising Honours, and Masters and/or PhD students to completion. Familiarity with innovation in teaching practice and technology and adoption of new technologies and other appropriate innovations in support of teaching development. Contributing to innovations in learning, teaching and assessment within the discipline and more widely across the University.
