Remote Access User Help Manual 2 Purpose of Remote Access Remote Access is intended to enable users of the Australian Synchrotron to gain remote control of their experiment at the synchrotron by launching the No Machine (NX) client. Getting Started Requirements To use the Remote Access you will require an account at the Australian Synchrotron. To request an account: Call the Australian Synchrotron User Office on 03 8540 4194. Remote Access has been tested with Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer. We recommend using Firefox with all VBL system pages. Your computer must be connected to the Internet or the Australian Synchrotron local area network (LAN). Helpful Hints Use the latest version of Firefox or Safari. There is an issue with NX client and Mac OSX Snow Leopard. This will be resolved in the 4.0 release of NX client.
Remote Access User Help Manual 3 Logging In Open you web browser and connect to the following web site: https://vbl.synchrotron.org.au/ You will then see: To login: Enter your username in the Username box. Enter your password in the Password box. Click on the Login button.
Remote Access User Help Manual 4 VBL Menu You will then see: This tasking area is the main menu for the VBL. You can move to all service areas and also change your password from this page. To access the remote access: Click on the Beamline Access link. Then, click on the Beamline you wish to access. Then, click on Remote Access.
Remote Access User Help Manual 5 Start Remote Access You will then see the NX client launcher: This page shows the web launcher. Click on the Continue button.
Remote Access User Help Manual 6 Remote Access This will download the NX Client, configure it, and launch a connection to the beamline. Once the NX Client window is open, continue as directed by the beamline scientist. Troubleshooting Problem: Java or applet load error. Solution: Java is either not installed or enabled on your browser, or you have an older version of Firefox. Install Java or upgrade to the latest version of Firefox. Problem: Load is aborted. Solution: This is an outstanding issue with Mac OSX Snow Leopard and will be resolved in release 4.0 of NX client.
