1 Installation and Setup of Google Drive for Students on Mac OS X Purpose: This guide will lead you through the Google Drive Installation and Configuration. Pre-requisites: 1) ODU Student Gmail account 2) Internet Connection Preferably Broadband or High speed. 3) Basic understanding of Mac OS X Filer and file movement (copying, moving, and locating). 4) A system running Apple Max OS X 5) You can only synchronize a single Google Drive account to any one Mac OS X device. (This is important to note for people that may share a computer or have more than one Google account.) Installing and Configuring Google Drive 1) Open your Internet Browser (Safari, Chrome, or Firefox) 2) Go to to log into your ODU Student Powered by Google 3) Login using your ODU account and password. 4) Once you log in, if you are both a student and faculty or staff you will need to select your student account from the radial selections. 5) Once you have logged into your account, click on the Drive option in the menu bar across the top if you see the following screen click on Download Google Drive for Mac and proceed to Step 8. 6) If you do not see Drive as an option, click on Documents and you should see the following screen. 1 P age

2 7) Click on Continue to Google Drive which will show you the following screen and allow you to begin the installation process for your Mac. 2 P age

3 8) Click on Install Google Drive for Mac (Other Devices are supported but are not in the scope of this document). 9) After you read and accept the Terms of Service click on Agree and Download. 10) Click on OK to save the Google Drive file to your Mac. 11) Go to your Downloads folder and click on the installgoogledrive.dmg file to begin the installation. 3 P age

4 12) Click on the Google Drive application icon from the install folder. 13) Click on Open to accept the security warning and install Google Drive. 4 P age

5 14) Click OK to allow Google Drive to modify your system. It may require you to enter an administrator password. 15) Click Copy to move the Google Drive application to your systems Application folder. 5 P age

6 16) Once Google Drive is installed you will find it in your Applications folder. Double click on Google Drive to sign in. In addition to the Applications folder, Google Drive will also be available in the menu bar. 6 P age

7 17) Click on Google Drive to sign in 18) Enter only your ODU account. DO NOT enter your password. 19) Click on Sign in. 20) You will be redirected to the ODU Shibboleth login page. Enter your MIDAS ID and password to log in. 21) If you are a student and a faculty or staff, at the ODU Shibboleth login page select the radial button for your student account. 8 23) Before beginning a sync of your files you can click on Advanced setup to review the default settings being used. By default Google drive will automatically copy and keep synchronized all files contained in the folder: <Harddrive>\users\<username>\Google Drive. Adding, modifying or deleting any files in this directory will automatically get replicated to Google Drive whenever you are logged in. You can specify other directories to keep synchronized if you prefer to keep your files elsewhere. 8 P age

9 24) After making any necessary changes click Start Sync. (This will synchronize all your files between Google Drive and your local computer directory that is specified. 9 P age

10 25) After the sync is complete a Finder window will open to your Google Drive sync folder or you can open Finder and access Google Drive from your Places panel on the left pane 26) Once you open the Google Drive folder you can drag and drop your files into your Google Drive. When you drop the files in to the folder you will see a Blue double arrow icon on it meaning it is in the process of synchronizing to the Google cloud drive. If there is a Check Mark on the file it has been synchronized with the Google drive. 10 P age
