1 Using Citrix SPSS on a Mac Accessing and using the SPSS software on a Mac computer is a fairly straightforward process, but there are few little glitches that seem to come up again and again. The following tutorial will take you step by step through the process of installing the Citrix ICA client, accessing the SPSS software, and using, saving and printing your SPSS files through Citrix on your computer. The Safari browser seems to have trouble with Citrix, so if you do not have the FireFox browser installed on your Mac, please follow this link and do so now. Step 1: Installing the ICA Citrix client Go to the DataWorks Remote Access to Software page and log in using your NetID and password: 1

2 This will lead you to the Web Interface for MetaFrame Presentation Server page where you will be able to click on a link to get the latest ICA client for Mac OSX. In order to use SPSS on Citrix, you need to install the ICA Citrix client on your computer. This will allow interaction between your computer and the Citrix server. Choose your Mac s default setting for opening the MacICA_OSX.dmg.zip file. 2

3 You will be able to see the MacICA_OSX.dmg.zip file in your downloads box You may see a message telling you to double click the Citrix ICA Client icon and then follow the on-screen instructions: 3

4 Whether you see the above message or not, click on the Citrix ICA Client icon and follow the on-screen instructions. When the ICA Client Installer comes up, click Continue to move forward to the license agreement. 4

5 Continue to the software license agreement, and then read the license if you choose and click Agree to move forward with the installation. 5

6 You will then be instructed to choose a destination for the installation of the Citrix ICA Client software. You will probably want to choose your main hard drive, then click Continue. You will be shown the amount of space needed for the ICA Client (11.2 MB), and you will be given the option of changing the location of the install. Click Install. 6

7 At this point the installer will ask for your administrator password. Type in your password if you have one, and choose OK. If you are using your Safari browser instead of the recommended browser, FireFox, you will be shown a message asking for permission to change a system setting in order for Citrix ICA client to be used. Click OK. The Citrix ICA Client installation is complete! 7

8 Step 2: Accessing SPSS on Citrix from your Mac Once you have successfully installed the ICA Citrix client, you can go back to the Web Interface for MetaFrame Presentation Server page and click on the SPSS 16 icon. Click OK to launch the ICA Citrix client: 8

9 You may then be asked to accept the Citrix Client Software License Agreement. Click Accept. Then SPSS will start: 9

10 Step 3: Using files and printing from your Mac through SPSS on Citrix When SPSS on Citrix opens on your Mac you will be able to choose what you would like to do. If you have files on your computer that you want to open, choose the Open an existing data source option, and click OK. 10

11 VERY IMPORTANT - You will be asked for permission to access the drive where you installed the ICA Citrix client. You might be asked for READ access, WRITE access, and/or UNRESTRICED access. You must choose Allow even though Deny is usually highlighted by default. The Citrix server is secure and will have to have access to your computer to open, save, and print your files. You can also choose to Allow all applets from appollo.library.unr.edu access to your computer to avoid the permissions requests in the future. 11

12 After you have selected the Open an existing data source option, clicked OK and allowed Ctirix access to your computer you will be able to choose a drive. Select the Computer icon on the left side and you will see a list of drives. In this case, my drive was V, but that changes depending on location and computer type, so you might have to check a few and go a few links in before you find the drive that represents your computer. Once you find your correct drive, you will be able to select the location where your SPSS files are stored. 12

13 Click on the folder where your SPSS files are stored. Open the folder where your SPSS files are stored and choose the file you would like to open. 13

14 The SPSS file will open up and you will be able to edit it as needed. Keep in mind that you are accessing the SPSS software remotely, and there will probably be some time delays. Sometimes these delays are significantly long, and sometimes they are not so bad. Be prepared to wait When you are finished with your SPSS files, you will be able to save them to your computer as long as you have granted Citrix access (see page 11). Choose File and Save or Save As 14

15 It s a good idea to check your file path and make sure you are saving to your computer. Then save the file as is, or rename the file as needed. 15

16 When you are finished using SPSS on Citrix and close the application you will be asked if you want to proceed in closing, click Yes to close. Then you will be given the opportunity to save your output file, or click No to close the application. That s it! Good luck with Citrix, and with Stats! 16
