Proven Techniques and New Concepts : Join us in Munich! Dear colleagues: With its 5th International Annual Congress, the DGOI returns to Munich, the city where the first, very successful Congress had been held in the founding year, 2004. In my capacity as Scientific Director of this event and speaking for the entire DGOI Board, I would like to invite all dentists, dental technicians and key members to participate. Amid the attractions of a lively metropolis as it is getting ready for the Oktoberfest season, the Congress is supposed to give you an opportunity for an intensive exchange of professional ideas. As everybody is aware these days, the importance of scientifically sound continuing education cannot be overestimated. Yet the number of continuing-education courses and events offering successful attendees a broad range of certificates up to and including a Master s degree has become quite confusing even to those who are familiar with the scene. We are therefore calling upon everyone involved to help develop clear guidelines by creating uniform standards and continuing education. This is where scientific congresses can play an important role. The high international profile of the DGOI will be demonstrated by the many participants we expect from countries throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia and the United States. The global association ICOI will be holding a Sunday morning session with wellknown speakers to conclude the Congress. By participating in scientifically sound continuing-education events, you demonstrate a high level of commitment to your patience and professional responsibility. So come to Munich, enjoy a highly motivating environment and experience continuing education at the highest possible professional level! Yours sincerely and with best regards, Prof. Herbert Deppe Scientific Director True to the motto of year s Congress, Oral Implantology 2008 Proven Techniques and New Concepts, internationally renowned speakers will take stock of the current state of the art: What has been clinically proven for many decades? Which concepts are currently under discussion? The answers to these questions will be given within a framework of three sections entitled Implantological treatment planning, Bone augmentation and Troubleshooting. The practical and clinical aspects are focal to this Congress, as are discussions between participants and presenters. In addition to the familiar Mainpodium, the DGOI Podium and the Young Implantologist will be presenting case reports, giving participants a valuable glimpse of current clinical practice. Our sponsors will be holding supplementary workshops including application reports and hands-on training. In line with the teamwork-centred approach that the DGOI favours, there will also be presentations for dental technicians and other members of the dental team. A novelty this year will be the recognition of the team-member program for the implant prosthetics curriculum. Another first will be the start-up workshop for dental students, which is offered free of charge.

5th International Congress, Munich General information Certification as DGOI Expert in Oral Implantology, ICOI Diplomate and Fellow On the morning of Thursday, 18 September 2008, 10.00 13.00, a DGOI Expert in Implantology certification exam will be held at the Hilton Park Hotel in Munich. These exams are recognized by the ICOI, which will award all successful candidates its own Diplomate certificates complete with the pertinent medals (ICOI members only). The German and international certificates will be awarded in a festive ceremony at the Congress by board members of both associations. The list of prerequisites for the DGOI Expert certification is available from the DGOI office at Kraichtal (Svatava Semmler, phone: +49 7251 618996-15, fax: +49 7251 618996-26, e-mail: semmler@dgoi.info). Your complete set of application documents, including documented case reports, must be received by our Kraichtal office on or before 18 July 2008 for preliminary evaluation. The same deadlines apply for the Fellowship case documentations. Successful candidates will be awarded certificates by both associations. Excellent public transportation Munich is excellently integrated into the German high-speed ICE train network, making the city easily accessible from most major cities within continental Europe. Munich International Airport is connected to the downtown area by frequent bus and local train service. Getting there takes approximately 40 minutes. Taxi service is of course available as well. For more information on the history of Munich, its prominent buildings and shopping opportunities, please visit the official Munich website at www.muenchen.de. Wiesn Warm-Up Oktoberfest party with a view of the Munich skyline The world-famous Munich Oktoberfest will be kicked off on the same weekend our congress is held! In anticipation of Oktoberfest, we will be celebrating a traditional Bavarian party on the 15th floor of the Hilton Part Hotel with its fantastic view of Munich on the eve of the great Oktoberfest opening, that is, on Friday, 19 September 2008. This event is also our response to our members suggestions rather than holding a very formal gala dinner, we will be celebrating a relaxed party for the entire large DGOI family. Make sure to book your accommodations soon Oktoberfest is also the reason why you should be out early when it comes to booking your accommodation in Munich. The Hilton Park Hotel has reserved a limited contingent of special-rate rooms for Congress participants, which you can book by phone at +49 89 38450, making sure to mention DGOI Congress at the time of your booking. The Congress Hotel is situated immediately adjacent to the English Garden, much favoured by runners! A list of additional hotels at favourable rates can be found on the Congress website at www.dgoi-congress2008.info; it is also available from the DGOI office (Barbara Balduf, phone: +49 7251 618996-0, fax: +49 7251 618996-26, e-mail: balduf@dgoi.info). Online registration To register, complete and fax the registration form in this brochure or register online on the Congress web site at www.dgoi-congress2008.info.
