iprint For Apple Computers Note: If you experience difficulties or are not comfortable installing the iprint drivers, please visit the TAC located in Randall Library for assistance IMPORTANT: If you have previously attempted to install iprint, or have used it in the past, you will need to remove that set of drivers before continuing. To uninstall the old iprint driver, follow these steps: 1. Open up your Hard Drive found on the desktop (Default is Macintosh HD) 2. Select your Library folder>application Support>Pharos>Utilities>Uninstaller. 3. Run Uninstaller to remove the iprint (Pharos) driver set. Once this is complete, you are ready to install the new iprint drivers. Install the iprint Popup Software Download the MAC iprint Popup Driver from the iprint webpage: http://uncw.edu/iprint/how.htm#pc and save to your desktop. This will be a.dmg file. Double- click on the file and your will see the following: Double-click on the Popup.pkg icon. Follow the instructions and install this Popup.pkg. You will be asked to log onto your computer as the administrator in order to complete the installation process. 1
If the software installs correctly, you will see this screen: Click on the Close button to exit the installer. NOTE: If you are running Mountain Lion, (10.8.x), you may receive an error stating you can t install this software. If you do, go to your system preferences and click on Security & Privacy located on the first row listed as Personal. Click on the General tab. Under Allow applications downloaded from: select anywhere. Users may want to change their settings back to Mac App Store and identified developers after installing the iprint drivers. 2
After installing the popup driver software, you are ready to add your printers. Go to your system preferences, and double-click on Print & Fax to install the printers. This is located in the second row labeled Hardware and the second to last icon. Add the iprint - Black & White Printer On the next screen, you will add a new printer by selecting the plus (+) sign directly above the padlock. 3
NOTE: If the padlock on the lower left hand corner is in the locked position, you will need to unlock it. You will have to enter the Administrator Account name and password before proceed. On the next screen, you will begin by selecting the Advanced option from the toolbar running along the top of the window. (This will cause your computer to search for all available printers.) NOTE: If you do not have the Advance button available as an option, you will need to customize your toolbar. To customize your toolbar, right click on the toolbar (if you are not using a mouse with this function, you will need to ctrl-click). When the customized box appears, drag the advance option into the toolbar. (Advanced is the one that looks like a gear). When adding the black & white print driver you will need to complete all the boxes as shown below. Start with the Type drop-down box and select Pharos Print Server from the available options. Important: You will need to type in some of the information. The URL address must exactly match the example below, or your driver will not work. 4
When finished, your screen should look exactly like the example below. When finished, click on the Add button. When the next screen appears, check the Duplexer box and click OK to finish the process. 5
You should now see the following screen and be ready to add the iprint Color printer to your print options: With this screen open, add a new printer by selecting the plus (+) sign directly above the padlock. Add the iprint Color Printer As before, use the Advanced option on the toolbar to search for available printers. When adding the color print driver you will need to complete all the boxes as shown below. Start with the Type drop-down box and select Pharos Print Server from the available options. Important: You will need to type in some of the information. The URL address must exactly match the example below, or your driver will not work. 6
When finished, your screen should look exactly like the example below. Click on the Add button to finalize the process. When the next screen appears, check the Duplex Printing Unit box and click OK to finish the process. 7
The following screen should appear indicating that BOTH the iprint B&W and iprint Color print options are available for use. NOTE: Under Default printer, you have the option of changing the default from Last Printer Used to iprint B&W, which will be helpful if you intend to print primarily in the less-expensive black and white print option. Test the Printer Installation To test, print any document and by going to File/Print and then selecting either iprint B&W or iprint Color. 8
