3 Personalize the Interface OS X Lion provides users opportunities to customize the interface to better suit the way each individual works. Organize the Desktop Do one of the following: Right-click on the Desktop Press control + click on the Desktop In the contextual menu, choose Change Desktop Background In the Desktop & Screen Saver window, click Desktop tab > select a desired desktop background > deselect/ select Translucent menu bar check box if desired Last Edited:

4 Configure Apple Trackpad Do one of the following In Desktop & Screen Saver window, click Show All button On the Menu Bar, click Apple menu > choose System Preferences In the System Preferences window, under Hardware section, click Trackpad Last Edited:

5 In the Trackpad window, click Scroll & Zoom tab > select Scroll direction: natural check box if you have an ios device such as an ipad, ipod touch or iphone because this scrolling direction works the same as on those devices. Last Edited:

6 Configure Apple Magic Mouse Do one of the following In the Trackpad window, click Show All button On the Menu Bar, click Apple menu > choose System Preferences Last Edited:

7 In the System Preferences window, under Hardware section, click Mouse In the Mouse window, click Point & Click tab > select any of the following options: Scroll direction: natural (if you are familiar with the scrolling direction on ios devices such as an iphone, ipad or ipod touch) Secondary click (recommended) Smart zoom (recommended) Configure general settings Last Edited:

8 Do one of the following In the Mouse window, click Show All button On the Menu Bar, click Apple menu > choose System Preferences Last Edited:

9 In the System Preferences window, under Personal section, click General In the General window, select any desired options Customize the Finder window Last Edited:

10 Enable the user folder in the Sidebar On the Menu Bar, click Finder menu > choose Preferences In the Finder Preferences window, do the following: Click Sidebar tab Under Favorite list, select your user folder The user folder is displayed in the Sidebar Last Edited:

11 Show hard drives connected to the Mac on the Desktop On the Menu Bar, click Finder menu > choose Preferences In the Finder Preferences window, do the following: Click General tab Under Show these items on the desktop section, select desired options The selected items will display on the Desktop Last Edited:

12 Change the default folder selected in the Sidebar On the Menu Bar, click Finder menu > choose Preferences In the Finder Preferences window, do the following: Click General tab Under New Finder windows show section, click the list down arrow > select the desired default folder Last Edited:

13 The new default folder is selected in the Sidebar whenever new Finder windows open Last Edited:

14 Show the Status Bar in Finder windows The Status Bar shows you how many items are in a window as well as the amount of hard drive space available to you so that you can manage your storage space On the Menu Bar, click File menu > choose New Finder Window On the Menu Bar, click View menu > choose Show Status Bar Last Edited:

15 The Status Bar displays at the bottom of the Finder window Customize the Dock Change the size of the Dock On the Menu Bar, click Apple menu > choose System Preferences Last Edited:

16 In the System Preferences window, under Personal section, click Dock In the Dock window, adjust the Size scale slider to increase or reduce the size of the Dock Last Edited:

17 You can also resize the dock by clicking and dragging the dotted lines on the dock. Hide or Show the Dock from the Desktop screen Do one of the following: On the Menu Bar, click Apple menu > point to Dock > click Turn On Hiding to hide the Dock when it is not in use On the Menu Bar, click Apple menu > point to Dock > click Turn Hiding Off to always bring the Dock back to the Desktop screen Customize the behavior of folder icons on the Dock To change the display of folder icons on the Dock, do the following: Click and hold on the icon or right-click on the icon Under Display as, select either Stack or Folder Last Edited:

19 Set Up Printers Add printers to the Mac Add printers with Bonjour compatible If there s a nearby printer that is sharing via Bonjour, which does not require configuration setup, it will appear in the list of printers when you click on the plus (+) button On the Menu Bar, click Apple menu > choose System Preferences In the System Preferences window, under Hardware section, click Print & Scan In the Print & Scan window, click the plus (+) button > choose the desired name in the printer list Last Edited:

20 The printer is added into the printer list Plug the USB cable from the printer into the Mac In the prompt window, click Install button Follow the prompt to install the printer driver of to update the new printer driver NOTE: This process may take a few minutes to download the proper software Last Edited:

21 Add network printers On the Menu Bar, click Apple menu > choose System Preferences In the System Preferences window, under Hardware section, click Print & Scan In the Print & Scan window, click the plus sign (+) button Last Edited:

22 In the Add Printer window, do the following: Click IP tab In the Address field, enter the IP address of the printer > press Return key NOTE: To get the Printer IP address, print the test page on the printer that you want to add to the Mac Last Edited:

23 After the IP address is validated as a complete address, the Mac will look on the network to see if the printer can be found. If the Mac found the printer, it will populate the information in the Name, Location and Printer Using fields In the Name field, replace the IP address by the printer name > click Add button Last Edited:

24 The Mac will setup the printer such as installing drivers, update software During the installation process, you can make any changes on the printer s options > click OK Last Edited:

25 The network printer is added in the printer list Set a default printer On the Menu Bar, click Apple menu > choose System Preferences Last Edited:

26 In the System Preferences window, under Hardware section, click Print & Scan In the Print & Scan window, click the Default printer list down arrow > select the desired printer name to set it as a default printer Last Edited:
