Target Audience Vascular access, infusion, radiology, critical care, home care and other health care professionals who provide services for patients with vascular access needs. Program Description Nurses and healthcare professionals who insert, maintain or remove intravenous access devices require education about current best practices in care and maintenance of intravenous devices. Healthcare professionals and nurses who attend this event will obtain up-to-date education about intravenous access, care and current best practices. Objectives Upon completion of this knowledge based program, the participant should be able to: Recognize clinical research questions arising from practice. Develop a plan for engaging in research within the clinical setting. Discuss the relevance of the INS standards to practice. Compare the previous version of the standards to the 2016 revisions. Discuss HAI prevention in vascular access. Describe methods to reduce infection when caring for ports. Describe PIV infiltrations/extravasation risks. Identify risks and benefits of pediatric vascular access. Fee Individual: $85 if registration and payment are received before February 21, 2016; $100 thereafter. Credit CEUs: 0.6 hours will be awarded to participants who attend 100% of this educational activity. CNE: 6.0 contact hours, AP#005-880 Southern Regional AHEC: Department of Continuing Education is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT): Application has been made through the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) for 6.0 Category A credits. Disclosure of any conflict of interest from the speaker(s) will be announced at the beginning of the symposium. Substitutes/Refunds/Cancellations Participants who register for the program and are not able to attend, may: Send a substitute; or Cancel 48 business hours before the program and obtain a refund for 70% of the registration fee. Cancellations less than 48 business hours before the program are non-refundable. Participants who register for a program and do not attend will forfeit the full amount of the program registration fee.

Speakers Julia Aucoin, DNS, RN-BC, CNE, is the director of Practice, Quality, & Research for UNC Rex Healthcare. She has over 35 years of experience as a practice educator, 15 years of research faculty experience and five years of experience as a nurse scientist for an academic health system. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the classroom about nursing research and evidence based practice. Julia is a Certified Nurse Educator and holds certification in Nursing Professional Development. She has been an active member of ANCC since 1992 and the NLN since 2006. She has received multiple distinguished awards, published works, served as mentor/advisor, headed research projects and served on multiple advisory boards in addition to a multitude of other professional achievements. Jami DeNigris, RN, OCN, began her career in 2000 as a social worker in New York. She obtained her nursing degree in 2007. Currently she works at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia on the Hematology/ Oncology unit as the clinical nurse manager. She has been a member of the Oncology Nursing Society for nine years and obtained her Oncology Nurse Certification in 2009. She is a Certified Chemotherapy instructor through the ONS, holding semi-annual chemotherapy classes. In 2012, she was a poster presenter at the National ONS conference in New Orleans. Her research and innovative policy changes have brought infection rates on her unit to 0 for over a year and half. Jami is involved in numerous hospital committees and has a strong commitment to giving safe, compassionate quality care to patients and families. Darcy Doellman, MSN, RN, CRNI, VA-BC, is the clinical manager for the Vascular Access Team at Cincinnati Children s Hospital in Ohio. With over 30 years of vascular experience, she has multiple published works, has presented both locally and nationally, and is currently involved as the principal investigator of and IRB IV infiltration device research study. She is nationally recognized as a pediatric vascular access specialist and a founding member of the Pedivan, a pediatric virtual network of the Association for Vascular Access. Hudson Garrett Jr., Ph.D., MSN, MPH, FNP-BC, CSRN, PLNC, VA-BC, is currently the vice president of clinical affairs for PDI Healthcare. Dr. Garrett is involved with, and holds leadership positions in, a variety of professional organizations. Dr. Garrett also served as both a reviewer and author for the 2012 AHE Practice Guidance for Healthcare Environmental Cleaning, a reviewer for the Association for Vascular Access Peripheral IV Guideline and the 2011 PEDIVAN Guideline for Pediatric Vascular Access. He has published articles in many periodicals including Infection Control Today, Managing Infection Control, Provider, The Assisted Living Journal, McKnight s Long Term Care, and in the American Journal of Long Term Care, and also in several Mosby Saunders medical textbooks. He also serves on the editorial review board for the Journal of Vascular Access, the Journal of Perioperative Nursing, AVA EVAN Newsletter, OSAP Newsletter, The Journal of and the American Journal of Long Term Care. Britt Meyer, MSN, RN, CRNI, VA-BC, NE-BC, is the nurse manager of the operations Vascular Access Team at Duke University Medical Center. She serves as adjunct faculty for East Carolina University, is a member of multiple professional organizations and provides educational presentations for multiple organizations. She has multiple published works and has presented both locally and nationally.
