Stanly County Alcoa Badin Site Telecom Focus Site The Alcoa Badin Site Located at multiple parcels, in Badin, NC, this site- at its closest, is less than 1/4 of a mile from the serving Central Office at 68 Pine Street, in Badin. The NPA NXX is (704) 422. Telecom Infrastructure Near Site Windstream is the ILEC for the site. Windstream has aerial fiber optic cable along the borders of several site parcels. This fiber runs along NC 740 HWY through Badin. Windstream also has its serving Central Office in Badin as illustrated by the yellow circle in the photo above. Time Warner Cable is the cable television provider for the area. Time Warner has aerial coaxial and fiber at many of the parcels. This fiber runs through the residential area between the parcels and then along the highway. Time Warner also has a hub site along NC 740 HWY at Short Street. The City of Albemarle has a fiber optic network. Albemarle s closest fiber to this site is approximately 3-1/4 miles away along Lee Lynn Road in Albemarle. AT&T provides service in the far western portion of Stanly County. AT&T could provide services to this site as a CLEC. AT&T s closest fiber is just more than 17-1/2 miles away in Red Cross. There is one cell site, very near the parcels of this site. It is an SBA Towers, Inc. owned tower. The tower is being fed by Windstream copper cable and Time Warner fiber. Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility are the wireless service providers.
Stanly County Alcoa Badin Site Telecom Focus Site Fiber Availability/Services at Site TWC and Windstream have fiber infrastructure and can provide ready access to high bandwidth services. Approximate distance of nearby fiber infrastructure by owners is illustrated in the chart to the right. Diversified fiber facilities can be available from a few sources, with a couple of them being at the site and additional providers with build distances that may be substantial. Time Warner Cable At/Near most parcels Windstream At/Near most parcels City of Albemarle 3-1/4 miles AT&T ~17-1/2 miles Fiber Redundancy and Diversity Time Warner Cable can provide redundancy to their coax and fiber services. TWC can provide Layer 2 service. Layer 2 service being one that does not provide Internet connectivity, but acts more like a secure private network, giving network administrators control over their WAN. With the TWC hub site just south of the parcels a diverse ring, possibly only collapsed as it leaves the hub would be a possibility. TWC can also provide diversification from separate nodes and/or hubs to the site and then the ring would not be collapsed in any location. Windstream can provide redundancy to their services, with little to no build to their outside plant infrastructure depending on the parcel. The possibility for diversification of this redundancy with Windstream services is very high. Because of the Central Office being located so closely to the site, diverse routes to and from the site could be achieved with a minimal outside plant infrastructure build. This would simply be constructing two (2) fiber routes, each along different streets from the Central Office to the site. This scenario could be installed where the ring is not collapsed in any location. Additional diversification may also be obtainable if Windstream fiber in the area is IOF (InterOffice Fiber). If the fiber has service/signal that originates from separate Central Offices, then a more separate and secure level of diversification can be achieved, just with this one provider. Utilizing services from both Windstream and Time Warner Cable would provide even more diversification to the fiber feeding the site. Although AT&T is a considerable distance from the site, there is a possibility they may consider a fiber build to this site. AT&T has been open to meeting with data centers and other large bandwidth users to have discussions regarding long outside plant builds. Adding AT&T to the possible providers increase the opportunity for redundancy and diversity. Competitive Services Time Warner Cable can provide the following services via its fiber connection; Fiber Services- Dedicated Internet 3Mbps to 10Gig+, Metro Ethernet, Voice PRI Services (23b+1d), Layer 2 Private Network services. TWC s core networks are designed utilizing either SONET and/or Ethernet technology. Customers looking for diverse fiber paths built into their facility will be determined on a case by case basis.
