12 Market Profile Education Alamance County is home to over forty schools including public, charter, and private educating almost 25,000 students. Alamance County is also the home to Elon University, a nationally ranked four year liberal arts college and Alamance Community College (ACC). Elon has 49 majors including masters-level education for its nearly 5,000 full-time students. ACC has 46 programs of study offering a variety of certificates and associates degrees for its 4,400 full-time students. Alamance has 22 universities and 10 community colleges within an hour s drive including numerous prominent schools such as Duke University and UNC. There are a total of 140,700 full-time university students and 53,700 community college students in the area. Healthcare Alamance Regional Medical Center, part of Cone Health System, provides excellent healthcare with 238 beds and 1500 employees in facilities located throughout Alamance County. Recently the center was named one of the nation s best hospitals for treating heart attacks. Regionally, there are 20 hospitals in a 45 minute drive including the world renowned Duke University Medical Center and Wake Forest/Baptist Medical Center. In all, there are over 8600 hospital beds in the area.
