FACULTY OF ART, DESIGN & HUMANITIES School of Architecture Lecturer (VC2020) in Architecture (with specialism in Digital Architecture Design) Full Time, Permanent Grade F: Salary Range 32,277-35,256 The Leicester School of Architecture at De Montfort University has a 117 year history and a long tradition of excellence in teaching. The School is expanding our academic team in key strategic areas with four posts for architectural educators with specialisms to meet our growth needs. We are inviting applications for a full-time Lectureship in Digital Design (VC2020). The successful applicant will have expertise and experience in aspects of digital design such as computational design, digital modelling and fabrication, and the application of these within the context of built and virtual environments. Candidates must hold a PhD in addition to professional level architectural qualifications (M Arch at ARB/RIBA Part II or equivalent). Professional Architectural Registration and post-part II professional experience is desirable. In line with the VC2020 programme supporting this lectureship, the candidate must demonstrate potential for executing an agenda of research with deliverable outcomes within the computational design research team in the School s Architecture Research Group. VC2020 academic staff are afforded teaching relief in their workload to support their return at the next Research Excellence Framework audit. The successful applicant will be expected to teach in the various architectural programmes across the school, with modern pedagogic approaches such as blended learning. Primary work responsibilities will include teaching in generic architectural design studios, to offer teaching in the digital design specialism with expectations of a developing portfolio in postgraduate research supervision. Additional responsibilities will include serving on various School, Faculty, and University committees. All candidates will be expected to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Job Description Lecturer (VC2020) in Architecture (with specialism in Digital Architecture Design) Faculty of Art, Design & Humanities Grade: F Role Profile: TAR2 Full Time, Permanent Duties of the role Overall purpose of the role To provide excellent teaching and research contribution to the Leicester School of Architecture in the relevant areas of expertise. The Vice-Chancellor s lectureships aim to enable individuals to grow and develop in their area of expertise in a fully supported teaching and research environment, with access to funding and development to enable them to progress along a teaching and research trajectory. The post-holder will become a full member of staff in the Leicester School of Architecture and have access to a range of training opportunities relevant to their on-going professional development, as afforded to established staff. They will be able to participate in a mentoring programme within their faculty, and undertake suitable career development activities. To teach in UG and PG Architecture courses To support the Head of School and Programme Leaders on curriculum development issues. To make significant contributions in studio-based educational engagement, teaching/supervising, academic scholarship, research, creative practice, and service. To aid and work with staff to build on and develop an in-house computational design research group. Qualifications Candidates must have professional qualifications in Architecture, and research potential to fulfil the professional & academic credibility of the role. Professional Practice experience is essential, and professional registration or licensure in one legal jurisdiction is desirable. Experience of teaching and learning in the subject/specialism is highly desirable. Main duties and responsibilities The appointee will be expected to: Plan and execute a research programme of internationally-leading quality within a relevant field, or inter-disciplinary area; Publish their work in high-quality journals or monographs, or produce equivalent outputs in practice-based areas; Attract significant levels of external funding for research activities and/or knowledge exchange initiatives; Act as a role model for other researchers (including Masters and Doctoral students)
Duties of the role in their School or Department; Engage in a wide range of scholarly activities, including public engagement activities designed to advance the academic reputation of their Faculty, School/Department and the wider University. Supervise dissertations/project work across the range of provision. Undertake external networking, e.g. with local business community, schools, colleges, or professional bodies (national committees), or with academic community (e.g. external examinerships). Participate in cross university and promotional activities such as open days, clearing and school visits. Carry out relevant administrative duties associated with the post, for example with matters related to student recruitment, enrolment, induction, teaching and assessment. Teach at UG, PG design studios ensuring good organisation and management as specified in the university s generic role descriptors.
