1 FACULTY OF ART, DESIGN & HUMANITIES School of Design Full Time, Permanent Grade G: Salary Range 36,309-45,954 De Montfort University has recently formed a new School of Design which brings together the key aspects of Product, Furniture, Interior, Craft Design, Fashion and Textiles. The school incorporates undergraduate, post graduate and PhD study with excellence in teaching, research and design consultancy. We require a dynamic and forward thinking individual to lead the development of the Footwear subject within the School of Design at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. The BA(Hons) Footwear Design programme is an established course with a reputation for working with renowned companies and brands, as programme leader you will join a team of specialists and further enhance the growing reputation of the course and the School. With a degree and appropriate industry experience you will have an excellent understanding of the subject area, a thorough knowledge of the footwear design and production processes. A track record of effective resource management as well as the ability to demonstrate practical and subject expertise is essential. Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level is advantageous. 2 Job Description Faculty of Art, Design & Humanities Grade: G Role profile: TAR3 Full time, Permanent Duties of the role Overall purpose of the role To lead the development of the BA(Hons) Footwear Design and associated post graduate provision, co-ordinate the day to day management of the programme and staff, and undertake the teaching of the footwear design and production processes. The post demands a thorough knowledge of design, range building, branding, specifications, costings and other relevant topics associated with the role of the Footwear designer. Contribute to University initiatives designed to recruit and enhance the experience and achievement of students, including the #DMUGlobal international initiative. To contribute to the Subject Area s commercial and research activities. Undertake related administrative tasks Main duties and responsibilities Programme Management: To lead the Footwear team in the planning, design and future development of the BA(Hons) Footwear Design and associated post graduate provision, along with supporting the Collaborative provision at Leicester College. To manage and co-ordinate the activities of the Footwear Design team, both permanent and part time staff. To manage the day to day operation of the BA (Hons) Footwear Design and associated postgraduate provision. To manage and coordinate the development of research and commercial opportunities. To coordinate and participate fully in the University s Quality Assurance process relating to the programme. Teaching: Contribute to BA(Hons) Footwear Design across all 3 levels and associated postgraduate provision. In undertaking this duty, you will, as appropriate: Use appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods and contribute to their development.

3 Duties of the role Ensure that the programmes are informed by current professional practice, including the use of new technology and use your knowledge of this to enhance the curriculum. Maintain and develop links with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure industrial relevance within the curriculum. To liaise with industry contacts to develop live projects and placement opportunities to further enhance the student learning experience. To encourage potential interaction with other disciplines within the department and wider faculty. Initiate, organise and supervise student projects, field trips and placements, including international visits. Contribute to the School s events, particularly showcases and exhibitions Support student satisfaction, employability, achievement and retention through personal tutoring To implement and monitor Health & Safety protocols and practice as required by legislation and by the Faculty s Statement of Safety Organisation. Researchpublicationpractice Contribute to the Faculty s commercial activities and research profile as agreed, through research, publication, consultancy and your own practice. Administration To carry out relevant administrative duties associated with the post, for example with matters related to student recruitment, enrolment, induction, teaching and assessment. Undertake administration connected with the programme and its students. Undertake activities relating to promotion and recruitment including open days and institutional visits both within the UK and internationally Co-ordinate and contribute to events and work in co-operation with visiting lecturers, industry and sponsors. Staff Development Attend and contribute to relevant staff development training. Perform any other duties commensurate with the job grade as reasonably required from time to time. (Equivalent qualifications accepted) Postgraduate degree in Footwear Design, or relevant discipline. Relevant experience of working in the footwear industry. Experience of working in a post-school institution Evidence of teaching experience Ability to teach and assess at HE level and evidence of designing and creating course materials Excellent knowledge of footwear design and production processes. Creative flair for concept development, range development and presentation Strong IT skills. Knowledge of CAD Planning and resource management Excellent organisational ability and experience of resource management Strong communication and networking skills.
