The post holder may be based at any premises the University occupies and may be required to work at any University site or any other reasonable location where the University is undertaking its business. The successful candidate will be asked to apply for an enhanced criminal disclosure check through the DBS. A conviction (spent or unspent) may not exclude candidates from this position but will be considered as part of the recruitment process. This post is permanent and due to commence in January 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter. It is placed within the Early Years and Education Subject Group to work on the Masters in Education, undergraduate programmes in the Early Years and the Education Subject Group and more widely across the Institute of Education and Public Services on Initial Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development short courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. GENERAL Currently part of the Institute of Education and Public Services, the School of Education will be moving within the University of Gloucestershire to become part of the Faculty of Media, Arts and Technology.

2 The Institute of Education and Public Services offers courses in Initial Teacher Education (BEd and PGCE), Education and Early Years, Social Work, Health and Social Care and Youth Work. This role sits within the Early Years and Education Subject Group. The group comprises three areas: Early Childhood Studies; Education Studies; MEd/CPD and PCET. In addition to the Masters in Education, the subject group offers a BA (Hons) Education Studies, FdA Education and Learning, a BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies and a Cert and Diploma in Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET), short CPD courses, a foundation degree in Education and Learning, and Early Childhood Studies, including Early Years Initial Teacher Training. The MEd is a thriving and well established programme within the Institute and is currently offered, on a part time basis, across 4 pathways: Leadership and Management (including Mentoring & Coaching) Inclusive Education (including the NASENCo) Professional Studies. Early Years (including with EYTS) The programme has recently been revalidated and the successful candidate will play a role in shaping the new offer and in developing the programme, building on current strengths and working with colleagues across the Institute to develop expertise and involvement on the programme, thereby increasing capacity. The newly shaped programme integrates short course continuing professional development opportunities and newly qualified teacher status modules within the strands to broaden the offer and create a product that is more flexible and attractive to teachers at every stage of their careers. The role will involve teaching on the MEd, liaising with and supporting colleagues with their delivery, contributing to teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate courses within the Early Years and Education subject group and participating more widely across the Institute of Education and Public Services on ITE and CPD courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The successful candidate will also play an important role in networking, both internally and externally, to raise the profile of the MEd and develop links for research and developmental activity. Teaching commitments would depend on personal expertise and experience, but a background in Management/Leadership and Mentoring and Coaching is necessary alongside at least one other area of expertise. There is potential for involvement in course leadership and in doctoral work. There is an expectation that the successful candidate would be flexible and teach at post graduate and under graduate levels and on short practitioner professional development courses, contribute to research and scholarly activity and support the research of others. Flexibility would also be expected with the working week, as most MEd sessions run at evenings and weekends. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible to: Head of School (Line Manager) Subject Group Leader (Operational Manager)

Primary Functions 1.1 To teach on the MEd, education-related under graduate programmes and short course continuing professional development programmes in schools and colleges 1.2 To supervise dissertations at post graduate and undergraduate levels. 1.3 To assess, record and report on students progress. 1.4 To contribute to the review, writing and development of course materials. 1.5 To support marketing and recruitment activities 1.6 To attend and contribute to course, subject group, Institute and Faculty meetings, including module boards and award boards. 1.7 To participate in Personal Tutor and link tutor responsibilities. 1.8 To contribute to research and scholarly activity within the Institute. 1.9 To monitor and ensure the quality of course provision and contribute to other aspects of quality assurance procedures, including Teaching and Learning developments 1.10 To commit to continued professional and academic development to address personal and institutional goals 1.11 To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade of the post, properly directed by the Line/Operational Manager. These variations will not change the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed. 2. Secondary Functions 2.1 Carry out such administrative duties as required by the Institute. 2.2 Contribute to the wider professional preparation of students. 2.3 Undertake appropriate staff development. 2.4 Provide academic advice and have pastoral responsibility for groups of students. Disposition Flexible with an ability to work collaboratively and collegially a good team player October 2014 *(Ref University Policy on Staff Participation in the PGCAP) Subject to the specific circumstances listed above, it is a condition of employment that all newly appointed staff on Academic Staff Contracts with fewer than three years experience of teaching in Higher Education, and not already possessing a teaching in Higher Education qualification, should acquire the University Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCAP). Instead of undertaking the PGCAP Staff with the equivalent of a minimum of two years full time teaching experience in higher education may seek the agreement of their line manager to apply for membership of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) after they have taught for the equivalent of one year full time at the University. Staff who are employed on a fixed term contract (FTC) which is less than three years will not be required to undertake the PGCAP. However, staff on a FTC of more than one year will be entitled to undertake the PGCAP whilst in employment.
