The School has developed relationships with key stakeholders regionally, nationally and internationally through work with the criminal justice, social work and social care sectors, youth and community agencies, and Professional Statutory Regulatory Bodies. There are over 90 academic and research staff in the School offering an extensive portfolio of over 30 taught programmes ranging from Foundation degree to Masters level provision. The School is organised into four Divisions, Psychology, in which this post is based, and three others. The Division of Psychology offers a range of undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes as well as postgraduate research degrees leading to the award of MPhil and PhD. Psychology staff are responsible for the management and delivery of four undergraduate programmes which are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) as providing the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), namely the BSc Psychology, the BSc Psychology with Criminology, the BSc Psychology with Education Studies, and the BSc Psychology with Health Studies. Joint programmes in which content is shared equally between psychology and another subject are also on offer, with six combinations being available at present, some of which involve cross-faculty collaboration. There are also four postgraduate programmes, the MSc Health Psychology, the MSc Psychological Wellbeing, the MSc Theory and Practice of Parenting, and the MRes in Psychology. These are managed and run by staff in the Division except for the Parenting MSc which is based in Psychology but shares some of the teaching with other areas of the School.
3 The Division of Psychology has research strengths in several key areas. These include health psychology (including health communication, breastfeeding, food allergies, chronic illness, and positive psychology); cognitive psychology (including vision, auditory perception, and reasoning and decision making); developmental and educational psychology (including children s eating behaviour, test anxiety, academic motivation, and theory of mind), and social and personality psychology (including forensic psychology, organisational psychology, cyberpsychology, and cross-cultural psychology). Members of the Division have published in a range of international outlets, including Behavioural and Brain Sciences, Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, and Social Science and Medicine. Staff collaborate with colleagues in the Division and School, in other Schools or at other institutions, and a number are supervising postgraduate research students enrolled for a PhD. The Division runs a research seminar series which provides a forum for the discussion of research ideas and findings. Contributors include high profile researchers from Psychology departments in the UK and abroad, staff based in the Division, colleagues from across the University engaged in psychological research, and PhD students. Teaching and research are underpinned by excellent University-wide and dedicated services and facilities. Facilities dedicated to Psychology are managed by two Psychology Technicians and include two IT laboratories, six experimental cubicles, a psychological observation laboratory, a perception laboratory and five additional psychology research rooms. The other three areas of the School include the Divisions of Community and Criminal Justice, Social Work and Health Studies, and Youth, Community and Education. Community and Criminal Justice staff provide a range of programmes in criminology and criminal justice which have been endorsed by Skillsmark, as well as postgraduate taught and research-based degrees. The Social Work and Health Studies Division offers a range of social work, social care and health-related programmes, including a three year full-time BA Honours Social Work Degree accredited by the General Social Care Council. Health Studies courses range from a Foundation Degree in Children, Families, and Community Health to the MA in Applied Health Studies. The second is an MSc in Psychological Wellbeing which had its first intake in October Psychology staff are also involved in the supervision of Ph.D. students who are conducting research projects on topics such as cyber bullying, well being in students, and discourses surrounding chronic illness.
