1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Accounting Reference No: A654 Salary Grade: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Faculty: Business, Education & Professional Studies Base Location: Park Special Conditions The post is based on our site at Park Campus. The post holder may be based at any premises the University occupies and may be required to work at any University site or any other reasonable location where the University is undertaking its business. GENERAL This post is intended to make a major contribution to the teaching, research and/or income-generating activity of the Faculty. Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Principal Lecturer posts are similar in that they involve a mix of teaching, research, knowledge exchange, commercial work and educational management. Senior Lecturer and Principal Lecturer posts are progressively differentiated from the Lecturer grade by the requirement to engage in higher levels of educational management, research and/or income generating activity. The Person Specification reflects these requirements. Senior Lecturer and Principal Lecturer posts will require significant responsibility in areas including course leadership, quality assurance, project management, staff development, Knowledge Exchange work, academic development, external relations, marketing, student recruitment and research. Principal Lecturer is a senior grade and post holders will make a major contribution to the operations of the Faculty. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible to: Head of Department 1. Primary Functions 1.1 To provide high quality input to the Faculty s undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and incompany programmes as required. 1.2 To contribute to the development of research, knowledge exchange and/or income-generating activity within the Faculty. 1.3 To develop flexible strategies for teaching, learning and assessment. 1.4 To adopt a scholarly approach to the development of the relevant subject discipline. 1.5 To contribute to programme management and administrative duties as appropriate. 2. Secondary Functions 2.1 To ensure effective quality assurance of all academic and professional duties. 2.2 To maintain professional standards and expertise by a process of continuing personal and subject development.

2 2.3 To develop external links with industry, commerce, professional and academic bodies as appropriate. 2.4 To undertake academic support duties, including academic counselling and tutorial support as appropriate. 2.5 To engage in outreach, promotional and student recruitment activity. 2.6 To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade of the post, as properly directed by the line manager. These variations will not change the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed. This job description outlines the main duties and responsibilities of the post and should be read in conjunction with the guidelines for determination of the duties of academic employees. These are to be found in the Personnel Handbook (Extracts for Academic Staff). This job description is a guide to the work the postholder will initially be required to undertake. It may be amended from time to time to meet changing circumstances by mutual agreement. It is expected the job description will be regularly reviewed by the postholder and his/her manager. These discussions will normally take place during the Staff Development Review interview. Where appropriate, an agreed amended job description will be produced or explicitly authorised by the Personnel and Staff Development Department. HEA Membership. Study for a research degree. Teaching experience in FE or HE. Experience of teaching at degree and taught post graduate level. 3. Training & Specialist Skills Excellent presentation skills. Evidence of CPD. Excellent learning support and teaching skills. Research, consultancy management or other appropriate skills. 4. Disposition Good interpersonal and communication skills. Potential to work with senior managers from external organisations. Confident approach. Potential to work effectively and flexibly with colleagues. Instead of undertaking the PGCHE Staff with the equivalent of a minimum of two years full time teaching experience in higher education may seek the agreement of their line manager to apply for membership of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) after they have taught for the equivalent of one year full time at the University.

The Candidate Applicants must have relevant higher education which, for posts at Senior Lecturer, includes a postgraduate qualification and/or professional accountancy qualifications. You must be experienced in teaching accounting to an appropriate level. For Senior Lecturer, experience in teaching at postgraduate level would be expected. The applicant would be expected to undertake duties commensurate with the role including management duties as required. In the first instance this would involve significant responsibility for support of franchised provision. Research and Knowledge Transfer The School is successful in commercial activity and research. Applicants should have a research background or an interest in developing capability in research.
