Geneseo School District #228 proudly announces this year s course offerings for Summer Learning Adventure 2012. This week-long enrichment program is for students who will be entering grades 3 rd -7 th for the coming fall semester. Classes will be held at the Geneseo Middle School during the week of June 4 th -8 th, 2012 from 8:30-10:00 am and 10:15-11:45 am. Course Offerings 1. The Light Bulb Lab 2. Pioneer Times 3. Math & Art SLA is a summer learning opportunity for students to choose a topic that interests them and pursue it. Students participating in SLA will participate in educational and stimulating activities at all kinds of interest levels. A great opportunity to see just how fun learning can be! 9. Directions for registration: All students can choose from any classes listed, but some instructors have noted the ages for which their curriculum is most appropriate. Please mark four classes the student would like to attend. Number the first choice #1, second choice #2, and third choice #3 and fourth choice #4.

Kicking It 101 Instructed by Carlie Hoekstra Come learn some soccer techniques and moves. Learn how to practice your soccer game in a fun filled environment. We will work on our dribbling, passing, shooting, and roles on the soccer team. We will work hard, but have fun as we form our very own World Cup! Have fun learning how to play soccer with your friends and come KICK IT with us this summer! The Light Bulb Lab Instructed by Miss Wilkey Where did Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, and Eric Carle go to find their good ideas? The Light Bulb Lab, of course! The Light Bulb Lab is a Creative Writing Workshop for inventive thinkers. In the lab, we will pair our writing with the fine arts. We will explore lands of purple jelly and fuzzy green spikes as we read and write creative works! Students will create their own imaginative book becoming the next children s author. It will surely be a/an way to jumpstart the summer! (Adjective) Target Age: 3 rd 5 th Grade Target Age- 3 rd -5 th Grade Math and Art: Instructed by Rachel Hamilton Who knew there was so much math in art? Learn how math is used in (and learn how to make) origami, tangram puzzles, 3D shapes, symmetrical shapes and more! Can only be offered during the first session (8:30-10:00) Natural Disasters! Instructed by Janelle Stoner Come explore natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and volcanoes! This class will involve many hands-on-activities. We will be making clouds, bottle tornadoes, and erupting volcanoes! Be ready to discover the disastrous effects weather can have on us.
Would you like to learn about flight and how rockets fly? In rocketry we will learn the basic science of flight for airplanes and rockets. You will get to construct your own model rocket that we can take outside and launch! These rockets will fly 800 to 1000 feet And you get to build it! This program is limited to 4th - 6th grades only. Rocketry! Instructed by Kent Wolfe Let s Get Messy with Art! Instructed by Nicole Smith Didn't get messy enough in art class? Wondering what other cool things you can do with art? Join this class over your summer break!!! Artists will explore duct tape, splatter painting, paper mache, crayon melting and other messy and fun mediums not normally taught in the classroom. It's sure to keep you busy the rest of the summer! The Circus is the Greatest Show on Earth! Instructor: Chris Ward performed in Gamma Phi Circus at Illinois State University and loves to share her love for the greatest show on earth! I Want To Be A Millionaire! Instructed by Nikki Pierce Come discover how to become a millionaire by learning all you need to know about money! How can we make sure to have enough money to buy what we need and want? You will learn to use a virtual online banking system so you can deposit the money you earn by coming to class and learning! Then you ll get to spend your money on things you need and want. Each student will have his or her own bank account with debit card for the week! Central Bank will share the secrets of how they keep our money safe and how we can make our money GROW! Maximum 20 students Do you want to learn to juggle? Would you like to tumble and learn pyramid building that is called Acro-sports? Are you a clown or would you like to perform in a clowning act this summer? "Kids on Wheels" includes skateboards, scooters, and bikes. Does that sound fun to you? This summer, there will be juggling, tumbling, clowning, and riding the wheels in "The Greatest Show on Earth." The last day of class, the students will perform a four-act circus for parents and friends. This will include face painting and costumes!
