General Summer School Information ATTENDANCE: A maximum of 2 absence is permitted during each session of summer school. There are no excused absences during summer school. Missing one day in summer school is equivalent to missing two weeks during the regular term. Students with more than 2 absence will be withdrawn from class. No credit or refunds given. TARDIES: Students are considered tardy if more than 10 minutes late. Note: 3 tardies = 1 absence (see guidelines for absences above) DISCIPLINE MANAGEMENT: NBISD Code of Conduct may be accessed at www.nbisd.org Students attending high school summer school are held to the NBISD STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT. Infractions of the NBISD Student Code of Conduct may result in withdrawal from summer school with no refund. Students are also required to follow district internet guidelines. Plagiarism and cheating guidelines will be strictly enforced. o Minor Infraction: Student and Parents will be given two warnings by phone and/or in writing. The third minor infraction will constitute removal from the summer school program without refund or credit. This includes internet misconduct. o Major Infraction: Any major infraction, including, but not limited to, drugs, alcohol, weapons, and other to be determined by administration, will constitute an immediate removal from summer school and will be subject to disciplinary action determined by the NBISD Student Code of Conduct. Disciplinary withdrawal from the summer school will be without refund or credit. BREAKFAST/LUNCH: Breakfast and lunch will be available at no cost in the cafeteria at the New Braunfels High School location as part of the Federal Summer Meal Program. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. 2

High School Summer School Credit Recovery/Acceleration Program SUMMER SCHOOL DATES: June 15, 2015 July 2, 2015 (M-TH) Morning Session 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. **Afternoon Session 12:00 p.m. --3:30 p.m. **The afternoon session must have at least 10 paid registrants or the session will be cancelled. REGISTRATION: Registration will begin May 11 th for students wishing to take summer classes for credit recovery and/or acceleration. Registration forms and payment will be returned to Christine Gonzalez at the NBHS counseling office. Final registration will be held June11, 2015 from 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at New Braunfels High School. OUT OF DISTRICT STUDENTS: Out of district students will be placed in available slots and must receive written approval from their home campus counselor in order take a particular summer school class with NBISD. REGISTRATION FORMS: Students will be required to complete and return the following documents: Summer School Registration Forms (2 pages) Full payment for registration must be received by the first Thursday (June 18) or students will be dropped from their course(s). All payments must be made in CASH ONLY. CREDIT VALIDATION: A copy of the Notification of Summer Credit form will be provided to the student to keep for their records. TRANSPORTATION: The district WILL NOT PROVIDE transportation for Summer School. TUITION WAIVER/REDUCTION PROCEDURE: Students may qualify for a reduced tuition if one of the following criteria is met: Migrant/Homeless No Charge Free lunch 50% of scheduled tuition Reduced lunch 75% of scheduled tuition Tuition waiver/reduction information is found on the registration sheet. TUITION: All tuition must be paid IN CASH, IN FULL by the Thursday of the first week of each session or the student will be dropped with no credit awarded. Exact change required. In-District students o are defined as those students who live in the NBISD zone, who have approved transfers because parents are district-employees or who attend Comal ISD. o will pay $125.00 per session for computer-based courses through A+LS; no discount will be given for subsequent sessions. o on free lunch will pay 50% of the published tuition per session. o on reduced lunch will pay 75% of the published tuition per session. 4

Out-of-district students (other than Comal ISD) o will pay $200 for computer-based courses and will receive no discount on tuition. NOTE: All coursework must be completed in the summer session for which you are registered. CREDIT RECOVERY and CREDIT ACCELERATION COURSES Credit Recovery Program Students may attempt credit recovery coursework if they have previously failed the subject. A maximum of ½ credit may be earned for each section completed. Instruction will be provided for a 3.5 hour block each day in the computer-based courses. All coursework MUST be completed within the session for which the student has registered and paid tuition. All A+ Online courses available in our contract will be available during the summer school program. Priority in the A+LS lab is given to NBISD students and graduating seniors. Credit Acceleration Program Computer-based courses will be provided to students for acceleration. Instruction will be provided for a 3.5 hour block per session each day. A maximum of ½ credit may be earned for each section completed. Special approval may be required to take courses for acceleration. Students will not be allowed to take a course for acceleration for which there is an upcoming End-of-Course exam for that student. All coursework MUST be completed within the session for which the student has registered and paid tuition. NBISD will offer courses for acceleration in the A+LS lab on a case by case basis. The student s high school counselor must approve all credit for acceleration courses in writing prior to registering.
