9 9 Virtual High School Academy On-Site Lab In the Virtual High School (VHS) Academy we have created another opportunity for students to complete their virtual courses. We will provide a structured environment where the student reports to a computer lab at the Summer Academy between 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Students may take advantage of transportation provided by the York County School Division (see page 11). Our structured environment includes a mentor who is an experienced teacher and is assigned to work with, and monitor progress and participation of the online students in the computer lab. The mentor can help students navigate the Learning Management System, Moodle, and help students communicate with their online teachers. Students work each day, Monday through Thursday to complete required assignments in their virtual courses in the lab at the Summer Academy location. Students will be required to complete assignments for Friday of each week from home. Blackboard Collaborate sessions scheduled by the online teacher during lab times are required and will be posted weekly. Attendance is required Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students will continue their coursework at home on Friday. Students are required to login daily to complete coursework. Taking your Virtual class at home As a student in the Virtual High School (VHS) Summer Academy, coursework is completed each day in the comfort of the student s home, Monday through Friday during times that are convenient to their schedule courses. Blackboard Collaborate sessions scheduled by the online teacher are required and will be posted weekly. The student will review instructional interactive materials, complete assignments, and communicate with their online teacher daily. Students are required to log into their online course daily. Commitment to Summer Courses Participating in Summer Academy courses means making a commitment for 5 weeks. It is important that students and parents understand that the Virginia Department of Education requires the school division to meet the required number of calendar days and hours. No online absences are permitted during the Virtual High School Academy. Failure to login daily constitutes an online absence. Credit cannot be awarded to students unless all requirements of the Virtual High School Academy course are fulfilled by July 23, 2015.
