2 SPECIAL NEEDS TECHICIAN GUIDELINES Central Carolina Community College is an institution for adult learning. It is a partnership between instructors desiring to teach and students desiring to learn. In order to create an appropriate environment for teaching and learning to flourish, there must be respect for everyone in the classroom. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Medical Insurance for Pharmacy Technician training program at CCCC provides students with knowledge needed to process insurance claims in the pharmacy. Employment opportunities: Community Pharmacies Hospitals Long-term care or rehabilitation facilities LENGTH OF PROGRAM: The program consists of: 33 hours of classroom instruction 18 hours of lab instruction 42 total contact hours ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Any adult 18 years of age or older may be admitted to the Medical Insurance for Pharmacy Technicians. CCCC requires that each student meet the following: US issued HSD or GED = Official Transcript US issued Social Security Card Photo ID Page 2
3 OTHER COURSE SUGGESTIONS: CPR Certification Computer Class Medical Spanish Class REFUND POLICY: If a student wishes or needs to withdraw from a course, he / she MUST contact the Continuing Education Director in the county where the course is being taught. A refund must be requested by the student in writing by completing a Continuing Education Withdrawal Form. This form must be signed by the Director and received by the Continuing Education Office. A refund will be issued as described by the policy below. A refund shall not be made EXCEPT under the following circumstances: A 100% refund of registration fee only shall be made if the student requests a refund and officially withdraws BEFORE the first day of class. A 100% refund shall be made if the class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. A 75% refund of registration fee only shall be made if the student requests and officially withdraws from the class before or on the official 10% point of the class. If a refund is not requested and approved as described above, no refund will be issued. Approved refunds (regardless of type of payment) will be issued from the Business Office. Please allow 4 6 weeks for approved refunds to be processed and mailed. STUDENT PERFORMANCE: Grades: Students must maintain an 80% average on chapter tests and final exam. Page 3
4 THE CODE OF CONDUCT: Students are representatives of the Central Carolina Community College Medical Insurance for Pharmacy Technicians program and must conduct themselves in a manner that will reflect the dignity of their profession. Students who do not present themselves in a professional manner in the classroom and lab settings within the program may be dismissed from the activity and/or program. CONDUCT GUIDELINES: Attendance: The student is expected to be in classroom the entire duration of the class time. Please do not enter late or leave early. The student should be prepared to explain tardiness and absences to the instructor. The need to leave early must explained to the instructor prior to the beginning of class. TARDY POLICY: Three [3] tardies 1 absence Ten [10] minutes or more will be marked absent for that hour of class Absences: Inform the instructor in advance if a class is to be missed. The student must take responsibility for obtaining missed assignments either from the instructor or fellow classmates. Students may not be able to makeup some in-class work including unannounced quizzes or tests. Instructors are not responsible for re-teaching material missed due to an absence. Classroom/Lab Absences: Students are expected to attend every class. Students are required to maintain at least an 80% attendance rate. Due to the technical content of the course, students will be dropped from the course if excessive absences are required for any reason. Absences may result in written makeup work and a meeting with the instructor to discuss missed material. Makeup work is due the next scheduled classroom day. Makeup work will not be accepted if it is late. Conversation: Do participate in class and lab discussions but avoid side conservations that are unrelated to the course topics. Focus: Please focus on class and lab activities as opposed to working on unrelated projects while in class. There is a significant amount of material to be covered and your attention to the topic is required at all times. Sleeping: Stay alert during class so that important content will not be missed. Excessive problems with sleeping during class may result in disciplinary action including but not limited to a marked absence. Page 4
5 Professionalism: A cooperative and professional attitude in class and lab environments is expected at all times. Do not use inappropriate or offensive commentary or body language. Negative attitudes regarding the course, the instructor, assignments, or fellow students will not be tolerated. Profanity and offensive language: Profanity and offensive language will not be tolerated either in the classroom or in the lab setting. This includes both verbal and written communications. Cell phones and beepers: Cell phones and pagers are to be turned off when entering the classroom or lab settings. Guests: Friends and children are not permitted in class or lab. Food and drink: Food and drink is not allowed in the classroom. Use of tobacco inside the building is prohibited. Use of alcohol and drugs is prohibited on school grounds. Tobacco: Use of tobacco and tobacco products is prohibited. This applies to all campus facilities and grounds, and in vehicles located on the property of the college. Infection control: Students must maintain infection control polices during lab procedures. ***Typically, violations of the conduct code will be dealt with as minor infractions. However, repetition of infractions or serious violations may lead to removal from the class and referral to the director of continuing education for disciplinary action [up to and including dismissal from the program] or until the matter is resolved.
