2 Aspiring Scholars Program Performance-Based Scholarship Application Fall 2012 (BCCC) in collaboration with The Abell Foundation announces the Aspiring Scholars Program Scholarship that will award 75 scholarships to June 2012 Baltimore City high school graduates who attend BCCC and enroll in the fall 2012 semester. This program is a performance-based scholarship, which means that you earn the stipend payments based on your current performance in college during the semesters that you are enrolled in the program. Each semester of this program, you will have a new opportunity to earn the stipend payments in that given semester. If you are selected for this program, you can earn the following dollar amounts based on your enrollment status: Semester Full-Time Student Stipends (12 or more credits) Fall 2012 Up to $1000 Up to $500 Spring 2013 Up to $1000 Up to $500 Summer 2013 Up to $500 Up to $500 Part-Time Student Stipends (6 or more credits, but not more than 11 credits) If selected, this scholarship will be awarded to you based on your meeting enrollment, advising, and academic performance benchmarks successfully throughout the semester. The scholarship is part of an initiative to help BCCC learn best practices in helping students stay enrolled and perform well in college. WHO MAY APPLY Only applicants who have completed all of these items will be considered for this scholarship program. 3 ELIGIBLE MAJORS o Pell Grant awarded o Enrolled in RENG 90 or RENG 91 or RENG 92 or MATH 80 or MATH 91 or MATH 92 o Enrolled in any college-level math or English course o Registered as a full-time student or part-time student with a minimum of 6 credits (in a certificate or associates degree program) All majors are eligible, including certificate majors HOW TO APPLY 1. 4 Phone: Address BCCC Test Center Liberty Campus, Main Building Room 4B STUDENT SELECTION PROCESS The College s Aspiring Scholars Program Scholarship Selection Committee will review each student s application materials. Students must submit a completed application and attend an orientation. The College s Aspiring Scholars Program Scholarship Selection Committee makes all award decisions on a first-come, first serve basis. NOTIFICATION TO STUDENTS Students will be notified by College. HOW ARE THE SCHOLARSHIP STIPENDS AWARDED? The scholarship stipends are awarded directly to you through the College in the form of a check. You will receive the stipend in two payments as follows if you meet these payment benchmarks: Full-time student: (12 or more credits) o $250 stipend check will be paid to you after your tuition and fees are paid and after the 20% enrollment verification date and having met with the Aspiring Scholars Program Advisor once. o $750 stipend check will be paid to you after earning a minimum of a 2.0 semester GPA(and a minimum of a C in all developmental courses) across 12 credits (including developmental course credits) and having met with the Aspiring Scholars Program Advisor twice. Part-time student: 6 credits, but not more than 11 credits) _ sdb_revised_ P a g e

5 o o $125 stipend check will be paid to you after your tuition and fees are paid and after the 20% enrollment verification date. $375 stipend check will be paid to you after the semester is completed and a minimum of a 2.0 semester GPA, and a minimum of a C in all developmental courses and having met with the Program Facilitator twice If you are selected for this program this fall, your receipt of the scholarship in the spring and summer terms is not affected by performance and receipt of the scholarship in the fall semester. You will have a new chance to earn the full semester stipends of $1,000 if you meet the requirements during that semester. In the summer, you will have a chance to earn $500 if you meet the requirements during the summer term. Student Academic Performance Requirements to Receive Summer Scholarship Initial stipend payment: $150 - Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credits at 20% enrollment verification date and must meet with the Aspiring Scholars Program Advisor.
