3 What is Credit Flex? 3 an alternative way to earn graduation credit outside of the regular student day and schedule generated and planned by students available to students eligible for high school credit

5 Online Courses Overview 5 taken through an approved online provider for original credit or credit recovery completed outside of the regular student day paid for by students--fees based on provider and any required exam proctor Students are still responsible to take all applicable End-of-Course Assessments within the time windows assigned by the state.
6 Mastery Assessment Overview 6 testing out of a course without sitting for it components course exam must achieve 80% or greater presentation of performance-based task to Credit Flex Committee completion of the process prior to the next course in the sequence
7 Mastery Assessment Applications 7 When there is a required, state End-of-Course Assessment, students can use that for Mastery Assessment. Whether or not students use the state assessments, students are NOT exempt from all applicable End-of-Course Assessments for their graduation requirements. Students must understand timelines for receiving scores on these assessments when considering use for prerequisite courses. student fees, as appropriate NOTE: For courses that don t have exams already created, they will be designed in a timely fashion to be available for the student.
8 Individual Plans Overview 8 may be used for independent study, internships/field experiences, community service/service learning, or educational travel* are individualized to students interests, skills, or career goals require a licensed Teacher of Record (TOR) assigned to the student by Lakota require detailed outlines including learning activities and assessments student fees, as appropriate *Credit Flex Plans are generated by the student. Students may look at examples of previously submitted plans. The District cannot provide templates.
9 A Note on the NCAA 9 The NCAA has strict rules and regulations regarding acceptable course credit and eligibility for student athletes. No credit is given for testing out of course content. Not all online courses are NCAA approved. Guidelines change frequently. NOTE: Student athletes should consult the NCAA Eligibility Center to determine whether or not Credit Flex is an option for them.
10 10 The Credit Flexibility Handbook and Application is available from counselors and at contains detailed information about options and the application process includes all necessary forms and deadlines requires that students discuss their plans with their counselors to ensure that the plan aligns with their graduation plans. IMPORTANT NOTE: Credit Flex is not retroactive. Credit Flex applications will only be considered prior to students beginning work on an option.

12 Process The student generates a plan for Credit Flex using the Handbook as a guide. All deadlines are outlined in the Handbook. 2. The student completes the Application and submits it to his/her counselor. 3. Appropriate personnel review the Application. Approval is based on the district s ability to implement. 4. The student is notified of approval or necessary revisions. 5. Once the Application is approved, the student completes the work independently. 6. The student meets as required with a Teacher of Record (only MA and IP). 7. On completion, the student presents his/her work to appropriate building personnel (only IP). 8. For online courses only, the student must confirm that his/her counselor has received the final grade. 9. Student is scheduled to take any applicable End-of-Course Assessments, as required by the state for graduation.
13 Timeline 13 Specific deadlines are provided in the Credit Flex Handbook under Credit Flexibility Application Timeline. Interested students must check the timeline carefully to ensure they can meet all deadlines. Students using Advanced Placement Tests or End-of-Course Assessments for the Mastery Assessment option will not be able to apply any credit earned until the following school year. If a student wants to take an online course or use another Credit Flex option over the summer, that application needs to be approved by the last day of school.
14 The Building Credit Flex Committee 14 a flexible group consisting of the student s counselor, Assistant Principal, and the Teacher of Record the group which approves all applications for Mastery Assessment and Individual Plans OR identifies required revisions responsible for communicating application decisions to students/parents the review board for presentations on Mastery Assessment and Individual Plans responsible for assigning final grades and credit and communicating both to students/parents
15 Credit Flex for PE 15 What is the difference between Credit Flex for PE and the PE Waiver? These are two, separate options. Credit Flex for PE requires the student to submit a Credit Flex Application for planned activities and coursework. Students can apply to earn PE credit through one of the Credit Flexibility options (see Lakota Credit Flexibility Handbook and Application). IMPORTANT NOTE: Students choosing a Credit Flex Individual Plan for PE credit must complete the following: develop the Plan to include all of the components of the PE Academic Content Standards for the appropriate grade level. (Use the appropriate grade level worksheet available online at ensure that the Plan specifies how students will be assessed on each of the Standards. The PE Waiver is a separate program and is not included under Credit Flexibility.
16 16 Secondary Summer School Program Overview
17 Original and Credit Recovery Courses 17 May 31 st -July 8 th (no classes July 4 th and July 5 th ) These courses must be completed by July 8 th to be eligible for credit. The following courses will be offered for original credit: Health, Government, Economics, Financial Literacy, Sociology, and Psychology. Required courses for the four content areas (English, Math, Social Studies, and Science) will be offered for credit recovery only (for students who have already taken the course and have NOT passed).
18 Physical Education Courses 18 The following courses will be offered: Fitness and Sports for all students who need their FIRST PE credit Team and Individual Sports for all students who need their SECOND PE credit Session 1: May 31 st June 17 th An AM (7:00 am 11:20 am) and PM (12:00 pm 4:20 pm) session will be offered, pending sufficient enrollment. Session 2: June 20 th July 8 th (no classes July 4 th and July 5 th ) An AM (7:00 am 11:40 am) session will be offered, pending sufficient enrollment. Students will NOT be permitted to split sessions (i.e. part morning session, part afternoon session or part June session, part July session).
19 Registration and Cost 19 $200 for each course taken Parents pay this fee through EZpay at the time of registration. Directions for registration through Ezpay will be posted to the Summer School website. Registration starts March 1, 2016, and ends April 15, The only registrations accepted after the April 15 th deadline will be for students needing credit recovery courses.
20 Math Advancement 20 Students will register for these courses through EZpay. Parents will pay the fee at the time of registration. Directions for registration through Ezpay will be posted to the Summer School website. Bridge to Advanced 7 Math: (for incoming 7 th graders to take Advanced 7 th Math in ) May 31 st June 17 th Students will attend daily, 7:30am 11:30am. Daily attendance is mandatory. Course offering is dependent on student enrollment. $200 Bridge to Algebra I: (for incoming 8 th graders to take Algebra I in ) May 31 st July 8 th (no classes July 4 th and July 5 th ) Students will attend daily, 7:30am noon. Daily attendance is mandatory. Course offering is dependent on student enrollment. $300

22 22 PE Waiver
23 PE Waiver 23 What is it? For eligible student athletes, the PE Waiver waives the PE requirement for high school graduation. It does NOT award credit. However, it allows the student to pursue other options to earn the 0.5 credit, rather than taking two PE courses (0.25 credit each). The student is still required to meet the minimum number of credits for graduation. Who is eligible? Students who are participating in interscholastic athletics at the high school are eligible to use the waiver after they have successfully completed two, full seasons. This can be two seasons in two, different sports, allowing the student to meet the requirements for the PE Waiver in one school year. The seasons can be in interscholastic athletics, cheerleading, and/or marching band. Under the Ohio state law, local boards of education may NOT add additional areas of participation beyond interscholastic athletics, marching band, or cheerleading which may be used to excuse a student from the high school physical education requirement. What does the student need to do? The student needs to participate in the two, full seasons and let his/her counselor know that he/she plans to use the PE Waiver for the PE graduation requirements.
