4 Purcell Marian High School: Summer School 2014 Session I June 16 th July 3rd Session II July 7 th July 25 th Summer School Rules/Expectations ATTIRE: All students are required to dress neatly and modestly at all times. The Purcell Marian Summer Program Administration reserves the right to determine if any outfit/clothing is inappropriate or cannot be worn. The following are NOT acceptable: Tank or halter tops, form-fitting clothing, ripped or torn jeans or pants, boxer shorts and similar shorts are not allowed. If shorts are worn, they must be walking shorts. Shoes must be worn. Hats, bandanas, or other head coverings are not to be worn in the building at any time. T-shirts may not contain offensive or vulgar messages (alcohol, cigarettes, etc.). Pants must be worn at the hip. PARKING: Students are only allowed to park in the South Parking Lot up near Madison Rd. Cars parked anywhere else on campus are subject to being towed. Purcell Marian (nor the Purcell Marian Summer School Program) is not responsible for cars parked on or off school property. ATTENDANCE: ONLINE SUMMER SCHOOL: Math, Science, Social Studies, & English ONLY Student attendance for the Purcell Marian summer school program is MANDATORY for the first three days of each session! Students enrolled in the online program should expect to spend additional time outside of school hours doing required assignments. Based upon individual abilities students may finish the required work faster or slower. Remaining on schedule is determined by successfully completing the required assignments, and is NOT determined by the amount of time spent in the system. After the first three mandatory school days, students who are on schedule are not required to come to PMHS for classes and are able to work independently online wherever they may choose (all test must be taken on campus during normal summer school hours.) If a student is not on schedule or falls behind these students are required to be in attendance at PMHS the following school day. The student is behind schedule as of 12:00 p.m. on the prior school day. Therefore, any student unsure if they are required to attend or not should attend class as scheduled. The student needs to take a Test all Tests must be taken at school to insure the integrity of the Test. The student is in need of assistance by a teacher to progress further the teacher for each subject matter will be available each day at school at the scheduled time and location for assistance with assignments, unless other arrangements are made by the teacher. The nature of online school work is flexible and very reliant on personal student motivation. This will allow students flexibility with their summer schedules, and will also allow for completion of school work from locations other than Purcell Marian. The benefit of coming to the Purcell Marian campus is for the purpose of working with a teacher / facilitator who is a subject matter specialist.
5 DISCIPLINE/BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS: Purcell Marian and the students that attend our school are good neighbors who display appropriate respect for others. Therefore, any student who behaves inappropriately or causes a disturbance in the school, during class, or anywhere on campus or in the neighborhood surrounding Purcell Marian is subject to immediate dismissal. Violators of good behavior and proper decorum will not be tolerated. All students are expected to honor the expectations of the Purcell Marian High School Summer School Program and the Expectations stated in the Handbook/Contract below. If a student is tardy, absent, or has a discipline issue they will receive demerits. ANY STUDENT WHO RECEIVES 5 OR MORE DEMERITS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER WILL BE EXPELLED FROM THE PURCELL MARIAN SUMMER PROGRAM. Demerits are issued for the following: Absent when required to be present 2 demerits Tardiness when required to be present (up to 15 minutes) 1 demerit Discipline Infractions 1-5 demerits based upon the severity of the infraction (as decided by the teacher and administration). Whenever a student receives a demerit a call will be placed home to inform the parent(s). Failure to follow Disciplinary Expectations, or the accumulation of 5 or more demerits may result in immediate dismissal with the loss of all tuition and course credit. All students will be provided PMHS login privileges. Anytime a student is logged onto the Purcell Marian computer network they may only do academic work required for the Summer School Program. Students may NOT at any time use the PMHS computer network for recreational or personal use. Any student who does NOT follow this requirement will be removed from class, sent home, and receive 2 demerits. Students are responsible for bringing all necessary supplies to class (pencil/pen, notebook, paper, calculator, headphones, etc.). Students not prepared cannot complete their work and therefore may be removed from class, sent home and issued demerits. Students are required to do academic work when in class at Summer School. Refusal to work, wasting time, sleeping, follow to follow instructions or to cooperate, or disturbing others will result in removal from class and demerits. Lockers are not to be used by students during the Summer School Program. Only students registered for the PMHS Summer School Program are permitted in the building. Any parent in need of meeting with an administrator or teacher should call ahead for an appointment, and report to the Main Office upon arrival at the school. Students are not to arrive to school grounds more than 15 minutes before their class, and must leave within 5 minutes after their class UNLESS having prior arrangements with a teacher. All students must be off school grounds by 12:30, unless with a teacher. Failure to follow this requirement will result in demerits. Students are to report directly to their classrooms when they arrive and to exit the building immediately after their class. Any student in other areas of the building will receive demerits. The basement and cafeteria areas are off limits to all students. Smoking/tobacco use are not permitted anywhere on the campus. Food and drinks are not permitted in the classrooms at any time with the exception of one bottled water per student. Cellular phones, pagers, and non-school related electronic devices must be turned off and not visible when in the school building. Failure to follow this requirement will result in the student being removed from class, sent home, and demerits issued. In the event of an emergency families should contact the Main Office ( ) and students will be able to call out from the Main Office. GRADE REPORTS: Students and parents are able to receive Progress Reports daily directly through the on-line system. Any parent who does not have computer access may request a Progress Report be sent home. Final grades will be report as a letter grade (A, B, C, D, or F) and mailed during the week of July 20 th. Final grades are mailed to the home and student s school (therefore the student s home school will have a record of the summer grade). Grades are assigned based upon the following grading scale: A B C D Failure- 59 and below Additional copies of grades are available for $5.00 through the Guidance Office. Summer School grades are kept on file at Purcell Marian for one year.
