FIRST PHILADELPHIA CHARTER SCHOOL FOR LITERACY ISSUE EIGHT Summer 2009 SPRING MUSIC CONCERT Music students from the second through eighth grade performed with their strings, woodwinds, brass instruments and chorus. Everyone in the audience was impressed with the level of professionalism that the children have achieved in the past five years. Many are already performing on a high school level.
FIRST TEE The First Tee, an initiative of the World Golf Foundation, has as its mission To impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character-development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. Their goal is to provide the golf learning facilities and the experience that will enable kids from every walk of life to partake of a game that teaches values for life and which can be played for a lifetime. 2009 GIRL S SOFTBALL TEAM The 7th and 8th Grade Girl s Softball team had a very successful season. 8 TH GRADE TRIP TO VIRGINIA BEACH Some of the highlights of the trip were staying at a hotel right on the beach, beautiful weather, kayaking, playing laser tag, and a trip to the Virginia Aquarium. EIGHTH GRADE CLOSIN The 2008-2009 academic year ended with what was our first class of second grade students from 7 years ago, all grown up and ready to go to high school. We were able to help our students get into over twenty extraordinary high schools all around the city of Philadelphia. KINDERGARTEN MOVING UP CEREMONY Our Kindergarten Class from 2008-2009 will be the Eighth Grade Class of 2017. The years seem to fly by. READING OLYMPICS The Reading Olympics program gets students in 4th through 8th grades excited about reading! Teams of students read from a list of books throughout the year. In May, the teams take a field trip to a local college to compete against other schools in answering questions about the books. First Philly fielded three Reading Olympics teams in 2008-2009, and all three teams received first place ribbons. 6 FIRST PHILADELPHIA CHARTER SCHOOL FOR LITERACY
