Pre-K-8th Grade Christian Education

We believe your child s first school experience is important in shaping his heart and mind for a lifetime of learning. Therefore, our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students are introduced to the joy of exploring and discovering through teacher directed instruction and center-based learning activities that foster phonetic understanding and fine motor development. Your child will have hands-on activities that inspire creativity and enhance learning in his formative years. The success he experiences will encourage his love of school and the feeling of confidence in all that is achieved. Ultimately, your child s individual, social, and developmental needs are our key focus, as we foster a nurturing Christian atmosphere of love and truth, helping your child mature as God has uniquely created him. As in the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs, our elementary curriculum is geared to each child s individual, social, and developmental needs. Our elementary program fosters a love for learning, with a challenging curriculum that establishes a solid educational foundation, coupled with a Christ centered focus across all subject areas. This educational and spiritual foundation is the gateway for expanded learning to take place in middle school. It is our aim to equip each student with the ability to make godly decisions, as he matures in responsibility and independence, and is faced with every day decision-making. A vital objective of our middle school curriculum is for each student to realize that academic studies are a part of his relationship with Jesus Christ. Students are challenged to evaluate life situations through the Word of God, and to actively engage in critical thinking in every academic discipline. The middle school experience at Northwest Christian School will prepare your child to be competent in meeting the academic, spiritual, and emotional challenges he will encounter as he enters high school. I tell everyone I know and meet that I can t imagine my children at any other school. NCS has become a home away from home. I know they are receiving a challenging and superb education, but above that, they are being loved, prayed with, and prayed for. The teachers care for and nurture our children, and help them achieve their very best. We couldn t ask for more. - NCS parent

A fun, creative, and nurturing educational experience that prepares your child for success in kindergarten. Kindergarten Focuses on the cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and physical areas of your child s natural development. Instruction includes teacher directed, or small group/ center-based learning activities in Bible, math, reading, writing, language arts, science, social studies, art, music, library, and physical education. 4 Over twelve years have passed since my 8th grade graduation, and I still hold dear the values, academics and life lessons instilled in me by my teachers at Northwest Christian School NCS graduate Physical Education Physical education class at NCS is a fun and spirited time for students to enhance their personal fitness and to learn to appreciate healthy choices as a lifelong pursuit. Students grow in an understanding and application of rules, safety, and fundamental skills of games and sports through a variety of team and individual activities. Students in grades 3 through 8 also compete in the area-wide Junior Olympics track and field meet held each spring. This competition is the culmination of many weeks of preparation during students physical education class, and is always an exciting event for the whole family to enjoy. Interscholastic Athletic Programs At NCS, to be a member of an interscholastic athletic team is to be a member of a winning team for God. This means that students strive to build godly character on and off the field, whether they win or lose a game. NCS athletes learn to respect the authority of their coaches and officials. They also learn to respect their teammates and their competitors. Student athletes are encouraged to strive for their personal best and learn lifelong values of self-discipline, time management, cooperation, and commitment to their team. The interscholastic athletic programs are available to students in grades 5 through 8 and include competition with local Sussex County school districts in soccer, basketball, softball, and track and field.

Vocal Music and Choir The vocal music program for kindergarten through eighth grade follows the guidelines of the NJ Music Educators Content Standards. Students master a varied repertoire of music, perform on various instruments, improvise and play notated rhythms, sight sing using the Kodaly method, read and notate rhythms, listen to and analyze music, and study music as it relates to history, culture, and other arts. All students have the opportunity to showcase the talents they are developing in concert performances throughout the school year. NCS assists with instrumental rentals and offers small group lessons throughout the school year. Qualified band members can join the Sussex County Jr. High Honors band. Instrumental Music and Band For those students interested in pursuing the instrumental arts, NCS offers small group lessons that encourage a lifelong love for, and understanding of, instrumental music. Beginning in fourth grade, your child can explore an array of percussion, woodwind, and brass instruments, while working in groups with similar paces of advancement. The Blue Band ensemble is made up of first year students, while the Gold and Jazz bands, and instrumental ensembles are comprised of those students with more advanced instrumental skill. Art Program Any visitor walking through the main hallway can attest to the quality of art instruction offered to each student at NCS. Studies in watercolor, pastels, charcoal, tempera, clay, and ink illustrate both the progression of artistic skills, as well as the unmistakable touches of individual creators. As students learn the visual grammar of line, form, texture, color and space, they gain insight into the Master Designer of the universe Himself and His work in those created in His image. Art displays in school showcase the contributions and talents of all students in fun creative ways. Select artwork is entered annually in the ACSI Arts Festival.

NCS is a haven where the name of Christ Jesus, Bible study, prayer, and Christian morals are displayed openly. Our kindergartner is receiving a strong foundation that will last throughout his lifetime, a stronger relationship with God, and a great education. - NCS parent We have found NCS to be a great blessing to our children s education as well as an example of Christ likeness throughout its faculty and families. We are very impressed at the way the biblical standards are upheld to teach our children the expectations of our Lord in a way that expresses the love shown in Scripture. We have recommended NCS to our friends and family and look forward to sending our younger children there in the future. NCS parent

Chapel A weekly chapel program augments our spiritual thrust, and is a special time for your child to gather and worship with the school community. Middle school students are encouraged to use their God-given talents to lead chapel through instrumental and choral worship, or fun and creative Bible-based skits. This offers a unique opportunity to foster individual confidence and Christian leadership amongst their peers. Inspiring and engaging messages, presented by Christian leaders and pastors from the tri-state area encourage students, faculty, and guests, making the weekly chapel experience at NCS a wonderful opportunity to express and share biblical truths which can be applied to their everyday lives. Biblical Studies Biblical truths and history come alive in the pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and elementary Bible curriculums at Northwest Christian School, as each teacher delivers a unique approach to learning, understanding, and living the Word of God. Your child will learn the Bible through age-appropriate instruction of stories from both the Old and New Testaments, which will set the foundation for expanded learning and the application of scripture. Upon entering middle school, a more in-depth approach to scriptural studies takes shape. Bible characters are further explored, and students are challenged to reflect upon the teaching as it relates to their own circumstances and everyday lives. The crown jewel of our Bible curriculum is our biblical worldview studies which is taught in seventh and eighth grade. Students learn how to think critically about the various aspects of their culture, and discern how our culture and the philosophies of this world compare to the authority of God s Word. Students enjoy the benefits of Christian fellowship and daily prayer together with their teacher and fellow students. Students grow in spiritual maturity as they engage in daily Bible study and weekly grade-appropriate Scripture memorization. Students enjoy a creative approach to Bible study that utilizes role-playing, character presentations, daily devotionals, song, and arts & crafts.

Since 1966, Northwest Christian School has partnered with the homes and churches of Christian families to provide students with a Christ centered education that promotes biblical principles, academic excellence, and a lifetime of service to God. Firmly founded on Christian values, we believe in integrating the Word of God and its principles into every academic discipline. Our highly dedicated and qualified Christian staff seeks to nurture and challenge students to explore, analyze, question, and pursue knowledge so they may realize their fullest academic potential. It is this pursuit of knowledge, built upon the foundation of God s Holy Word, which enables students at Northwest Christian School to expand their minds, energize their lives, and enrich their hearts, bringing glory to the Lord through understanding and service.
