Amy s three new chicks The chicks at 6 weeks old Success at the Holiday Parade Abbie Members Win Big at State Competition by Jan Bennett December3wasthedateoftheStateRecordBookCompetitionatUCDavis. One hundred and three members from 4H clubs all over the state submitted their books for review. At the state competition, books are read by trained judgesandrankedinto 4categories: participation,meritrecognition,medalist and state winner. Of the 103 books submitted this year, 19 of them ranked StateWinner.Abbie sownjennabennettandjoeybennettwereamongthose winners.alamedacountyhadagoodshowingof7bookssubmitted,4ofwhich werecountywinners notbadatall!membersmustbe14yearsofageasof December 31 of the 4H year for which they are submitting their book. They started the meeting talking abouttheyearahead.theprojectmemberswillbeabigpartofthecountywidefavoritefoodsdayevent, andtheywillbesellingsnacksatthecountywideskitnight.thegroupalsodecidedtovariouscookiesfor theupcomingchildren schristmasparty. Oncetheplanningtimewasthroughitwastimetogettowork.Thememberslearnedaboutmeasuringin thekitchen,wetversusdrymeasureandhowtoconvertmeasurements.forcateringevents,youhaveto make large quantities, so it s important to be able to convert a recipe. Before we could collect the food however, the 4Hers who helped out had to go up to the customers entering the store and explain to them what we were doing and how they could help. The customers were excited that Pleasanton s youth were so willing to help the community, and were glad to see howfullthebuslooked.stuffabuswasareallygreatopportunitytogivebackto the less fortunate families during the holiday season.
