1 May 2012 Newsletter GRRWNA promotes the general welfare and common interests of the homeowners within the boundaries of the Greater Round Rock West area. The boundaries served by the association are defined as North: FM 620, South: McNeil Rd, East: IH 35, West: SH 45 G.R.R.W.N.A. Meeting Tuesday, May 15 at 7pm Grace Lutheran Church 708 Bluff Drive Corner of Round Rock West and Bluff Drive G.R.R.W.N.A. Discount Pet Clinic Fundraiser On Wednesday, November 30, 2011 our neighborhood held its tenth, semi-annual, Discount Pet Clinic as a fundraiser to help us with the many programs we continue to support as a neighborhood. Due to the fantastic participation of not only our neighborhood but much of Round Rock, it was our most successful winter clinic to date. Over the past year, the money from these fundraisers has been used for donations to the Round Rock Serving Center, the RRRHS Band and Marine Corp R.O.T.C. (who supplied the drum line and color guard for our 4 th of July Parade), Grace Lutheran Church (in whose facilities we have been meeting for many years), as well as all three schools in our neighborhood. In addition, this provided partial funding of our annual National Night Out neighborhood gathering down at the November 2011 Pet Clinic Raffle Winner park. Our neighbors Dr. John Tarlton, DVM and his wife Lana, who reside on St. Williams Loop, have provided the expertise at each of these clinics. The planning and operation of the November 2011 clinic was carried out by neighbors Don Yenni, Tony Huffman, Dutch Mueller and Don Harris along with the Tarlton family. We not only were able to provide dog and cat veterinary services, but we also had nail clipping provided by La Mia Bella Pet Salon. The next scheduled Pet Clinic is set for June 13 th of this year. See inside newsletter for more information on next clinic. The winner of the free raffle for a four person party at Austin's Park 'n Pizza (generously donated by Austin s Park n Pizza) was Lynn Evans of Round Rock.

For the last few years your Neighborhood Association has been placing flags at the curb to mark three of our patriotic holidays: Memorial Day, The Fourth of July and Veteran's Day. Over half of the homes in our neighborhood have flags at the curb from this program. Anyone can "sponsor" their street, or a block or two of it, by purchasing enough flags at $1 each to put one in front of each house in your area. Once you purchase the flags, you will only be responsible for having them placed in front of the houses. If you cannot place the flags, the Boy Scouts from Troop 345 have agreed to help. If any flags are missing or broken after the holiday, the Association replaces or repairs them. The flags will be returned to you each holiday to put out again at no further cost to you. We also have some "flag insertion gadgets" (FIG's) that make it easier to place them in the hard ground. The Association would like to thank the following neighbors who have either sponsored or helped place the flags during the past year. If you are interested in sponsoring an area, or would just be willing to help put out flags along parts of our longer streets, please contact Don Yenni ( or [email protected]).

4 Friends of the Neighborhood Page 4 The Greater Round Rock West Neighborhood Association would like to send a huge THANK YOU to all of the following stores and businesses surrounding our neighborhood for their ongoing support in advertising in our newsletter, providing prizes and services for the GRRWNA, our July 4th Parade or our regular meetings. Please make an effort to thank each of these Friends of the Neighborhood as you visit them throughout the year. Without their support we could not be as successful an organization. A HUGE Thanks to Boy Scout Troop 345. They have volunteered to place flags for the association on the 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Veteran s Day

7 2012 GRRWNA Page 7 Donation to Deep Wood Elementary On April 27, 2012, Bob Eskridge and Clarence ("Dutch") Mueller, presented a $1000 check to the Principal of Deepwood Elementary School, Meredith Perkins. The donation will be used to help with expenses involved in purchasing leveled books that match the performance level of the particular student. The student may be ahead or behind the norm and have the opportunity to learn at their specific level of progress. The school is in the process of extending the selections in the literacy library in order to challenge every student at the appropriate reading level. Not getting our neighborhood notices by s? Go to and register. HAVE YOU SENT YOUR CONTRIBUTION? Our association operates solely on contributions. 100% of all contributions go to support the community activities of the GRRWNA. These funds help us with our National Night Out, 4th of July Parade, RR Serving center support, Deepwood Elementary and Chisholm Trail Middle School support and more.
