Scope: The post holder will ensure the needs of our students come first and that every learner will be provided with opportunities to achieve their full potential within a safe, stimulating and supportive environment. You will work with a range of students across the college working at different levels. In addition, you will work with staff and stakeholders to improve their perceptions of maths and to gather data to evidence improvements. Job Purpose: To ensure that students have a good understanding of the importance of math s skills in their future education and career. To provide better links between mathematics and vocational training and education, evidenced through improved perceptions internally and externally, and through qualification achievement. Accountabilities: 1. Deliver mathematics and maths related subjects to students taking account of other inputs from the teaching team 2. Use appropriate teaching techniques to ensure high standards, high retention and high success 3. Provide quality support for students to up grade low mathematics results from school 4. Develop appropriate teaching techniques and materials which meet new educational initiatives and re-engage students with maths 5. Contribute to the overall development, promotion and success of mathematics progress and achievement across the College 6. Improve the perception of mathematics delivery and importance both internally and externally 7. Create baseline data through student questionnaires and creation of reports 8. Create and complete student perception questionnaires on entry, December and January as a minimum 9. Collate success rates and lesson observation reports in order to quality review of skills for life area 10. 11. Evidence improved attendance in maths lessons and tests 12. Improve the use of the VLE with maths 13. Record and monitor student attendance and progress as directed 14. Maintain standards expected by award making bodies, industry and students 15. Work with other lecturers to identify and support those students at risk of non-completion of their programme 16. Support the team of specialist and vocational teachers to embed maths skills in the subjects they deliver 17. Prepare teaching materials and practical exercises in line with the syllabus and in conjunction with others, and assist in the section s development of programmes 18. Undertake internal verification in line with Awarding Body and College requirements as appropriate 19. Evaluate the effectiveness of the subject / course / course-subject group and identify and implement actions to effect quality improvement 20. Identify updating and CPD opportunities including vocational applications, for self and other teachers of the subject discipline 21. Apply new pedagogies and technologies in the teaching and learning of the subject / course / course-subject group sharing good practice 22. Support and contribute to the planning and delivery of skills for life in Academic Programmes as appropriate 23. Set and mark programme work, examinations, assessments and assignments 24. Work with teams to improve success rates in maths 25. Attend and take an active part in programme team meetings 26. Prepare student reports and attend parents evenings as required by the College 27. Maintain student welfare and discipline, providing guidance and counselling when required and in consultation with Student Services, including liaison with parents and other sponsors 28. 29. Liaise with Student Services and other sections to progress expertise in student assessment, welfare, attendance, counselling and discipline; contribute to the development of extra curricular life 30.
