welcome Dear colleagues, the organizing committee of the national conference on electrochemistry in Germany ELECTROCHEMISTRY: Crossing Boundaries has the pleasure to invite you to visit Gießen, Germany on October 6 th -8 th 2008 and to contribute an oral or a poster presentation. Gießen is located in the heart of Germany in the middle of the Federal State of Hesse and provides the advantages of an excellent location surrounded by an open countryside. The Justus- Liebig-University of Gießen founded in 1607 by Landgraf Ludwig V. von Hessen-Darmstadt as Academia Gissena is one of the eldest universities in Germany and has celebrated its 400 anniversary in 2007. Among the most famous scientists who researched and taught in Gießen are Justus von Liebig, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, Johann Konrad Dippel (appointed to be the prototype of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein) and many others. Nowadays, the University of Gießen offers education in the full spectrum of natural sciences and humanities and has over 20 000 students. The conference ELECTROCHEMISTRY: Crossing Boundaries continues former regular separate national meetings of Fachgruppe Angewandte Elektrochemie, ELACH, DBG, Dechema, AGEF, GfKorr and DGO within one conference, now held in English and addressed to an international community. It aims to bridge the gap between fundamental science, applied science and industrial processes. Invited plenary talks given by internationally recognised scientists from Germany and abroad and key note lectures will contribute to the high scientific level of the conference. We look forward to welcoming you in Gießen! Jürgen Janek (Conference Chairman) 3
