3 Dear EDF friends, 25 years have gone, since a handful interested and committed dairy related people started to work on the idea of a benchmarking club for European dairy farmers. The project could have been outdated, but it attracts today more and more open minded and front running dairy farmers who are eager to improve and find solutions to adapt in a changing world. In EDF, we don t do politics or lobbying, but we re making the European idea become reality every time we meet. Our differences are a source of inspiration and capacity building, not of judgement. Where can you find a farmer with 2,500 cows discussing about his work, challenges and perspectives with a farmer who has 25 cows? Only in EDF. They find inspiration in each other s experience, because they are driven by a common passion of being a satisfied and successful dairy farmer. Workshops (2 hours each only one workshop to choose) Please note special requirements for CoP-Intensive-Workshops, participants will receive more information in advance via to prepare themselves for the discussion. CoP-Intensive I: Farmer-to-Farmer advice: Farmers tell each other how weak points of their farms could be improved The workshop includes discussions in very small groups. Limited to advanced CoP participants with at least 2 years CoP participation. CoP-Intensive 2: Why do you not improve the worst point of your farm? Participants will discuss the weak points of their farms in the group. Open for every farmer that has provided farm data for the CoP. CoP-Intensive 3: Dealing with volatility Participants discuss the development of their CoP results in the group to better understand, if and how some farms better manage their costs when prices fluctuate. Limited to CoP participants with at least 3 years CoP participation. CoP-Intensive 4: Human resource management for high labor productivity Participants will discuss options for better labor productivity on their own farms by better managing hired workers. Limited to farms with CoP participation, at least 2 employees and a completely filled table on worked hours in the dairy enterprise. Touristic program (2 hours): You need some fresh air and would like to see the highlights of Rostock? Take a 2 hour walking tour from the Congress Hall into the city and back to the Congress Hall. More Workshops and Lectures (one hour each two to choose) Forage production Challenges and requirements for profitable dairy farming High quality forage production is a key success factor in dairy production. But high quality and economic results do not always go hand in hand. Which are key factors to evaluate forage production economically? How will these factors change in future and how can dairy farmers react? Financing Growth Business development for family enterprises What are the key risk factors for a lending bank when it comes to expansion financing? Practical examples will be used to discuss and evaluate possible development scenarios and different ways of financing growth, with particular emphasis on: Profitability and cost analysis, funding structure and liquidity, land holdings and securing basic staple fodder, labour organisation and personnel management. CoP for everybody: CoP results from a global perspective: What can we learn in terms of current situation, trends and future challenges for dairy farms? Participants will discuss the CoP results presented in the plenary session and are invited to ask content-based and methodical questions. Personnel training: How can ordinary people achieve extraordinary results? With dairy farms becoming even larger, more and more central tasks are performed by people who are not from the field or need to be trained. Looking at different examples from daily farm life (e.g. ensiling process, calf rearing,...), we will discuss how to train people best. Best practise examples give you ideas for your own personnel management..

11 VISA: Visitors from EU member states and the Schengen countries do not require an entry visa for Germany. Congress delegates from non EU member states are kindly requested to contact the local German embassy to check whether they need an entry visa for visiting Germany. More information can be found here: Accommodation: Delegates have to book their own accommodation. The EDF 2015 conference fee does not include accommodation costs. Hotel rooms have been reserved for delegates of the EDF Congress, and must be booked not later than April 30 th. Please see information enclosed. Arriving and departing by plane: EDF 2015 delegates should make their own travel arrangement to the congress venue. Shuttle service from the airports will not be provided. Youngsters Tour: Especially for young farmers, EDF offers this year a special Youngsters Bus. Farmers up until 30 years old can apply to take the Youngsters Special. Meaning they will all take one bus together and pay 100 less for the full Congress. In order to have a good country distribution, there are country contingents.
