2 Invitation Dear colleagues, members of the Scandinavian and the German societies are warmly invited to participate in a small, mainly clinical conference in Berlin. This 3. Nordic Conference will provide a creative exchange about a subject analysts tend to ward off. Human atrocities have come back into the middle of Europe. Under the impact of the murders of A. Breivik shortly before our 2. Conference in Oslo the wish had come up to better understand and conceptualize the inner world in which this originates. As Germans we know that we move into regions we have difficulties to acknowledge. We are familiar with the consequences of destructive narcissism, Rosenfeld has described, and we have to explore further the role of triumph, the pleasure to frighten and the mixing of destructiveness with pleasure and lust. We intend to provide the space to discuss in our own field of the analytical situation the emergence and the defences of strivings like these. To help us to understand our own process during the conference we asked two colleagues, Hermann Beland and Wulf-Volker Lindner, to serve as observers of our group work. Our conference will be a clinical one with two papers given in the beginning, followed by discussions of cases from members from the participating countries. The clinical work will be in four separate groups with time to come together again. The conference is limited to 40 participants. The venue of the conference will be the International University for Psychoanalysis in Berlin with good accommodation nearby.
