3 INITIAL GREETING Bernd Sibler, State Secretary The Bavarian State Ministry of Education, Science and the Arts A short welcoming speech to open the international conference Optical technologies made in Germany provide extensive opportunities for the future, as throughout recent years they have continually promoted our country as a central location for business and industry. The vast majority of optical technological products are integrated into diverse, valuable stages of plants or machinery. Complex optical systems are successfully applied in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and also space research. A high global market share of German industry in these individual segments proves the international competitiveness of this branch. Here in Bavaria, cutting-edge engineering is characterized in particular by intensive cooperation between our successful universities and their industrial partners. lt is the responsibility of each university of applied sciences including the Deggendorf Institute of Technology to undertake applied research in addition to providing excellent academic education. Therefore, at DIT s Technology Campus in Teisnach, competences in the fields of optical technologies, process developments and optimization, measurement and manufacturing engineering converge. Due to its research and regular optic seminars, the Technology Campus in Teisnach has earned an impressive reputation in the professional world of optics manufacturing.
