Our studios were designed by the legendary Harris Grant Associates - responsible for some of the best in the world, from Battery Studios in New York to the BBC Maida Vale studios in London. If you love music, you ll hear Neil Grant s unique sonic fingerprint on million-selling recordings from many of the world s most successful and critically acclaimed artists. And if you love film, you ll appreciate the same attention to detail that s gone into Harris Grant s acoustic designs for dubbing suites and mix studios on both sides of the Atlantic. From Sony Classical s German facility to New York s legendary Hit Factory, Harris Grant has shaped the way great records, movies and TV programmes sound. We have eight music, mastering and post-production studios, featuring top of the range consoles such as Neve, SSL and Icon, with stunning monitoring and classic microphones to match. There are also edit suites and drop-in facilities for those smaller yet essential production jobs. We have purpose built computer labs featuring fully-functioning HD digital studios complete with analogue split-monitor consoles and imac workstations for each student. Had a brilliant time studying here, everyone is helpful, the only place to prepare you for professional industry standard of work! Futureworks also found me industry audio work with a prestigious production company. Joe Allman, Futureworks Graduate Year One - Semester 1 provides you with the essential tools of the trade, including sound recording, engineering and studio techniques. You begin your familiarisation in Pro Tools alongside the option of formal Avid Certified training (Pro Tools 101) and are introduced to your first two studios. In the studio and in the classroom you will explore sound theory in both analogue and digital domains. This neatly dovetails with the more practical aspects of semester 1 such as recording using microphones, mic choices and techniques, EQ and outboard processing using studio effects and dynamic controllers. You are introduced to and take your driving test on your first two mixing consoles the traditional analogue split monitor Toft ATB24 and the latest in computer controlled consoles, Avid s Icon D-Command. Semester 2 builds on the essential tools and develops your technical skills in a more creative direction. Most lessons take place in the studio where we investigate the workflow of the recording engineer, the structure and organisation behind managing your own studio sessions. In semester 2, three new studios are added to your repertoire. The SSL studio, where as a group we will undertake sessions to further develop instrument, vocal and drum recording techniques, the D-Command 5.1 studio where you can learn and practice techniques essential to mixing in stereo and surround and the Custom Pre studio with its combination of bespoke vintage analogue and sophisticated digital technology enables the budding engineer maximum flexibility using the latest techniques and workflow. Added to this, the option to continue with formal Avid Certified training at the next level with Pro Tools 110. Projects: Recording 1; Mixing in Stereo & Surround. Year Two - Semester 1 begins with an Introduction to our high-level music and postproduction studios Neve and Icon D-Control. Once trained and established in these facilities you will embark on a full and in-depth investigation into film sound. Classes take place in our cinema dubbing theatre (D-Control studio) as we work through processes essential to mixing for film and TV. Starting at the beginning with script analysis you will follow recording, editing, mixing and automation workflows culminating in the delivery of finished film sound content. Semester 2, our advanced level tutors guide you through the world of studio production taking in music mixing and mastering, expanding semester 1 knowledge into interactive content for game audio design. 41 Our outstanding film studios are situated in the heart of the northern media network at MediaCityUK, where the BBC, ITV and numerous independent production companies have major production facilities. With 8,000 square feet of creative studio space to play with, our students benefit from fully professional filming facilities including motion capture, green screen and set building studios, together with Mac and PC computer labs. Our 64 square metre motion capture studio includes the latest Opti Track optical motion capture system. This highly versatile set up is capable of recording two people simultaneously. Motion tracking data is processed by a PC running MOTIVE, which allows the data to be fed directly into Autodesk Motion Builder and Maya. These impressive facilities combine to create a fully professional motion capture studio - available exclusively for our students. In addition, we have an impressive 12 metre by 4 metre green screen which is large enough for your most ambitious projects. We also have black screen and white screen areas allowing filming against various non-keyed backgrounds and plenty of space for building film sets. Over the course of one intensive week you will be introduced to all the necessary tools to get you started on the path as an independent filmmaker. Using the latest in HDSLR cameras and industry-standard equipment you will be given the knowledge you need to get out there and make great looking films on a small budget. We will show you how to create professional results using lighting, framing and depth of field techniques including the skills required to shoot within a green screen environment ready for the post-production stage. The buzzword for digital cinema is filmic and we will show you how to achieve filmic images that will take your production to a new level.
