2 WELCOME Welcome to the first ever Riverside Arts Festival, produced by Fecundity Productions. A two day spectacular showcasing the talent and skill of the student producers, directors, technicians, performers, film makers, designers and choreographers of the Faculty of Arts. Mesmerizing performances and films have been devised for your viewing pleasure. Join us over two days to watch your favourite performance style and maybe something new. With a varied mix of disciplines, you are sure to find something to brighten up the dark winter days. All performances are completely free; book your tickets now on or visit the booking office in the Horncastle Building. Fecundity Productions comprises of first and second year BA (Hons) Technical Theatre and Production students. The technical team is the backbone of any successful production; they create the atmosphere, add excitement, and enhance the drama of the performance. Managed by second year students, the Riverside Arts two-day event represents three months of planning and co-ordinating, a skill essential to working in the live entertainment industry.

4 ACTING The acting discipline is at the centre of the programme and links to a range of production areas such as devising, directing and the broad range of skills necessary to establish a theatre company. Through exploration of a variety of forms, genres, conventions, theatrical and artistic movements, a wide range of performance styles will be studied. Both classical and experimental theatre projects are developed and performed to the public throughout the three year programme. SCROOGE REVISITED Bob Cratchett feels the burn as he finds the Xmas spirit in this festive haunting. Performed by 3rd Year BA (Hons) Acting with Theatre Practice students. SEVEN DEADLY SINS Envy the lust, feel pride in the greed and gluttony of unrepressed wrath and feast on the sofa of sloth. Performed by 1st and 2nd Year BA (Hons) Acting with Theatre Practice students. EXPERIMENTAL BA (Hons) Acting students explore unusual experimental acting.

5 BROADCAST MEDIA The BA (Hons) Broadcast Media programme is aimed at those who plan to become a professional practitioner in the Media Industry. The programme is delivered through modules that allow both production and academic skills to develop in preparation for the varied and diverse range of opportunities the media industry has to offer. The programme allows students to develop a good grounding of the skills associated with broadcast media and the wider sector, including audio and video production. Professional practices are at the forefront of the programme with further opportunities to examine areas relating to entrepreneurial practices, social networking and developing your own business. Modules include hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment, including Avid and Pro Tools.

8 FILM-MAKING This creative and practical course provides opportunities for students to explore the art, craft and practice of fiction, documentary and experimental filmmaking. Furthermore, the course covers design and production of moving image work for film and television, and the fields of advertising, promotion and education. Emphasis is placed on creative origination, problem solving, storytelling and the expression of concepts and ideas. Independent learning and negotiated study encourages and enables students to develop their own personal voice and work towards their chosen areas of specialisation. Live client briefs, national student competitions and networking with the industry are an important part of the programme. Small group sizes allow for high contact with tutors and easy access to a wide range of production equipment. This film programme features a selection of short films produced by our students in recent years.

9 MUSICAL THEATRE The first and second year BA Musical Theatre students have compiled a performance for their first Creative Futures module, comprising of a cabaret themed show including songs from the musicals of Nine, Burlesque, Moulin Rouge, Sweet Charity and Chicago.Choreographed by the second year students, true to the Burlesque style, the show is full of sexy, high energy, racy routines, taken from true Fosse style and other Burlesque performers. The BA Musical Theatre course has been specifically written by Hull College and endorsed by The Open University. Not only does the course help to gain practical experience, such as perfecting techniques in singing, dancing and acting, but also knowledge on the history of Musical Theatre. Offering a wide variety insight to theories behind practitioners of all three disciplines, the tutors push students to be the best they can be, recognising strengths and reinforcing weaknesses.

10 DANCE This course aims to produce multi-skilled dance graduates who are versatile in Choreography, Performance, and Teaching Practices. Creatively, the course focuses on European Dance Theatre Practice, exploring approaches to the body through means such as the digital body and the body in culture. Alongside creative subjects students develop an understanding of the importance of the technical dancer, and have the opportunity to study weekly Contemporary, Jazz, and Ballet classes. Commercial Dance genres and Somatic studies are also covered. The onus is on practical classes, live performances within our own Riverside Theatre and working with visiting practitioners and dance professionals working within the industry. Written work will support the practice.
