2 INTRODUCTION Moderator: Michele Guadalupe, MPH Michele is the Vice President of Advocacy and Public Policy for the Arthritis Foundation, Heartland Region. Michele also serves as National Delegate for the Illinois Society for Public Health Education (direct liaison with national SOPHE) and is an Illinois State University Alumni Association Board Member. She holds an MPH from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and a Bachelors of Science in Health Education from Illinois State University.

4 OBJECTIVES Describe the leadership role of health education specialists in health education organizations. Identify resource tools to effectively partner with organizations state wide.
5 ISOPHE, HISTORY OF SOPHE, ISOPHE Mission: To provide leadership to the profession of health education and health promotion and to contribute to the health of all people through advances in health education theory and research, excellence in health education practice, leadership through a code of ethics, standards for professional preparation, and the promotion of public policies conducive to health.
6 ISOPHE GOALS/STRATEGIC PLAN Goal #1: Promote and Maintain ISOPHE as a leading health education organization. Goal #2: Promote professional development and enhancement of health education practice. Goal #3: Actively engage in advocacy efforts that will advance the health education profession and provide a voice for health education issues on a local level. Goal #4 Create a strong link between national SOPHE and Illinois SOPHE (ISOPHE)

9 ADVOCACY Chair: Michele Guadalupe, Members identify health related issues in Illinois and nationally that have advocacy implications. Such health related topics may include: obesity, chronic disease, tobacco and healthcare reform. Communicates these opportunities to the ISOPHE members. Instructs and reviews ISOPHE members how to write the letter or what to include in the letter. Helps ISOPHE members identify who to contact (legislator? Council person?) Develops telephone scripts for calling WHO? Legislative contacts. Evaluates its efforts including keeping track of ISOPHE members that participate in these advocacy activities. Develop policy and procedure for writing position papers.
10 COMMUNICATIONS Chair: Tsoetsy Harris, Outside Communications/Newsletters/Social Media. Update brochures, power point presentations, bulletin board materials, social media markets, etc. as necessary. Create a newsletter for ISOPHE members to be distributed electronically at least 3 times a year. Create and maintain social media outlets i.e. LinkedIn and Facebook.
11 CONNECTING TO OUR FUTURE Chair: Nicole Sisen, Host CHES review classes DePaul University October 2014 Illinois State University April 2014 Implement health educator panel discussions at 3 universities University of Illinois at Chicago Spring 2014 Implement ISOPHE bulletin boards at 2 new university locations Maintain communication to Eta Sigma Gamma Chapters throughout Illinois which may include an ISOPHE Presentation.
12 CONTINUING EDUCATION Chairs: Elizabeth Bormann, Nicole Sisen, Partner with the Connecting to our Future committee in offering resume writing, using social marketing, portfolio development, etc. Collaborate with an association whose mission is similar to ISOPHE in offering a workshop Hold at least 1 continuing education workshop in 3 regions of the state. CHES Review Subcommittee (subcommittee of CE Programs) * Via , review forms/applications for CE programs and initiatives to ensure consistency with NCHEC standards.
13 CEU EVENTS: SAVE THE DATE! 2014 Integrated Public Health & Medical Preparedness Summit Pre-Conference Workshop: Cultural Humility in Health Education/Promotion Tuesday, July 8 th :00 am 11:30 am Dr. Leah Christina Neubauer 14 years as a Public health educator, trainer, evaluator, and researcher Research informed by critical theory, continuing & professional education, indigenous communities theory & practice. Currently focused on culturally-responsive evaluation, sexual health promotion, and innovative, qualitative research methodologies.

Increase by 10% the # of National SOPHE members that are NOT ISOPHE. Reach out to area defunct chapters for inclusion in ISOPHE events.
